Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I am waiting for the new birds, 3 girls and 1 boy, all black. I so desperately wanted black NNs so I decided to get a decent flock of them and later to breed them with my english araucana cull boy (he has no crest) and create blue egger NNs. they are supposed to lay white eggs and the boy came from the flock that lays sky blue eggs so they should lay light blue and not green eggs. next year is going to be busy for me.

Hey everyone. I just got this little bantam nn (showgirl fail) last night. Not sure if it's a roo or pullet. It's old enough to not be peeping anymore but not sure on age. Has to be over 4-5 months but that's all I know. Any thoughts on gender???

No crowing? Small comb for a rooster at over 20 weeks. I vote pullet.

Are NN roosters always aggressive? I have a NN rooster that can't seem to get along with anyone, including my wife and me! He has attacked the two Buff Orps that he grew up with viciously, bringing blood, so we finally separated him from all others. He attacks the wife when she feeds/waters him, he attacked me twice when I was removing the Orps from the pen, and the wife just now tried putting the NN hen (who is a very gentle sweety - the wife's words) in with him and he attacked the hen (and the wife) immediately. I'm not going to leave the hen in with him for him to destroy her, is now butcher meat so I MAY wait until next year to find a gentle NN rooster for her to breed with. I was wanting to raise NNs and Brahmas, but if NN roos are this belligerent, I won't keep them in my flock!
BTW, the Brahma roo is very gentle with the hens so far, so for me he's a keeper. If all the NN roos are NOT gentle, and instead are vicious and aggressive, I will not raise them, period!
Possibly, I will switch to Chanteclers (Thanks Karen) which are supposed to be a gentle chicken.

ya, bullsnakes are nonvenomous, one bite wouldn't kill anything unless it got an infection in which case it would take a few days...
Yeah, Bull Snakes are non-venomous, but from what we have been told, they have a mouth like a sewer which can make you very sick if you are bitten; but usually they strangle their prey, like one of those Florida Pythons, - mucho bacteria and toxins - but a neighbor swears it was just a very large garter snake, who do bite when agitated, so maybe it was a garter (no rattles on the tail, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a rattler, which are pretty common in our neck of the woods) ..... whatever it was, it's bite didn't take long to kill the roo!

I personally think you can get good, or bad, with any breed. Too bad you are having a bad experience with this one.

Like any breed, aggression needs to be bred out of the birds. I've raised a lot of NNs, and I've only had one truly aggressive one. He was absolutely delicious coated with a dry rub and slow roasted for nearly six hours.

I currently have three NN roosters and seven NN cockerels that are roughly 20 weeks old. I can handle every single one of them without fear of being pecked, and some actually seek me out to be pet, even jumping up onto my lap and snuggling in. I've worked very hard to breed out aggression as one of my primary goals. It can be done.
