Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Do you have any NutriDrench?
Hopefully she’s willing to drink.
I really hope she pulls through!
:fl:fl

no nutridrench but I have some vitamins. she has been sleeping all day. I syringe water. a friend of mine told me to give her 1,5 ml olive oil. that should help her to empty her crop and hopefully to poop. she cannot stand on her own but when I keep her she can move legs and toes.

I am going to get some clear necked chicks. they will come from XXXXXXXL eggs. a friend of mine has them, black and white. as my new place will be in a country (probably with hawks, etc) I will probably take black only. the white ones would be like invitation for lunch.
Actually I've never heard of anyone who has white chickens have found them to be targeted by predators any more than colored chickens. In mixed flocks the colored birds get picked off more often. They think it's cause colored birds more resemble their natural prey.
Hawks and fox, etc, have pretty good eyesight. White birds might look like they'd stand out like a sore thumb to us, but those predators eyesight is pretty darn good, they see the movement of camouflaged birds just fine, you ain't fooling them.

You can get some Aloha NN's!! They are very pretty and mottled! She's been breeding a NN version for a few years now.
I don't have the rooster here anymore, but the hen on the left has gone broody!

a hawk chose to pick white marans hen in my friend's farm. luckilly her roo saved her. he was covered in blood but he did a great job and recovered in a few days.

I personally have no experience with predators and white chickens. the only thing I can say for sure is that black chicks are safer than the white ones. magpies totally ignored my black chicks even when they were about 10 days old and they gathered around the coop when I got 10 weeks old silkies.

My father in law used to keep racing pigeons and refused to keep the white ones. He said the tried the whites and they were always getting picked off first by the falcons.
My brother has also had problems with the hawks going after white call ducks before the natural colored ones.
Personally, I haven't noticed a difference, but I don't have much problem with raptors on my flock. I have been told that with the racing pigeons, the natural colored ones have white spot on their rump that they use to "mesmorize" the hawks/falcons that chase them, and that it gives them an advantage in evasive action. So I suppose if that's true, then white must have some kind of affect on raptors. :idunno
