She’s absolutely beautiful! 😍 What did she look like as a chick? I have one & she’s yellow & blue/black. Her little wing feathers are starting to come in & the tips are bright white! Curious how she’s gonna end up feathering out. :)

Not sure if this is the right place for this- if not let me know please 🥺

I am fairly new to the naked neck variety/breed. I currently have some silkie satin showgirls and silkie feathered showgirls. I think only one, maybe two of my birds are full NN, all the rest have bowties.

I am having trouble sexing them. I have a few that I am certain are Cockerels. These birds are new to me, someone else grew them out, and they came to me a group of 16. There is one that I am certain is a pullet, and three that I am certain are Cockerels. But there are a few that have decent (not huge but definitely bigger then what I would expect for a pullet of another breed) sized combs, and no wattles or very small wattle growth, especially compared to the ones that are obviously male. Is this typical of this variety, that pullets have bigger combs?? or do I have a whole lot of roosters? 🤪

Okay, can I just say the red skinned ones FREAK me out!

That being said, I finally gave in & ordered a few hatchery ones...just for fun. They'll be arriving in March. My hubby's gonna think they're diseased, I'm sure.
I prefer the melanistic NN's too! Just think it looks much more pleasing to my eyes at least.

Now, my dark skinned ones, I adore!

So, I've been observing my flocks and pondering on what direction I am going to take my breeding plans and day dreaming about the possibilities with some fun color projects.

Yesterday, when I was in my Ermine Ameraucana pen, one of my black satin showgirls followed me in. Which got me to thinking. Ermine pens goes something like this- Black, dominant white, and Ermine- you can get ermine from breeding black to dominate white or any combination of those three colors as long as you don't pair black to black or D.white to D.White- 😊

So when she followed me in, of course , my very next though was- "Hmm....I wonder what a NN, melanistic, ermine satin showgirl would like?" Then immediately after that I also thought -" what about a silkied ermine showgirl or a frizzled satin or a frizzled silkied ermine showgirl?" Lol- I'm sure it obvious where this is going! Then I also thought- how cool they would also be Easter eggers! Lol

So now I'm pondering and planning. I like dark skinned NN birds, so I think the first leg of my project would be to breed Ermine satin and silkied silkies and achieve the ermine color on the silkies first, with black skin, and then I would breed in the melanistic Nn . I am also considering doing this in porcelain MF/confetti and a lavender ermine, maybe a chocolate.

Ermine genetically is the same as breeding paint. It is suspected though that other genes play a role in allowing more black to show through, so if I breed in an Ermine who already possess those extra melanizers then I should in theory be able to over that.

Would love to hear everyone's opinions on this possible project and any advice or tips that maybe I haven't thought of yet 🤔
