Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Yes like light brahma but is also name of the gene. It removes black pigment from the body, especially the chest.. so you would not be "wrong" in saying a light brahma is a silver columbian and a buff brahma is a gold columbian. (silver prevents gold series pigments from showing up.. making birds black and white. Gold is the normal gene and lets gold series pigments show up- red duckwing, buff, etc are all golds) You could also say maraplz's red pullet is a gold columbian, with extra genes to intensify the gold color to the red shade she has..

Try playing with the breed/country/area names? Transylvania- Sylvia, Trana, Syl, Ania......

Transylvania is in Romania.. here's a list of Romanian feminine names.

Main page for Romainian names in general

Have fun!

I can't believe I'm saying it, but I'd love to get some Naked Neckers.

I had a pair of LF blacks last year, and I sold them in the fall. They were odd looking

but very sweet. I should have kept them, but the roo was bottom of totem pole, and I had combined my breed housing for winter.

Hatcheries only seem to have Red, which I don't like. I'd like to get some black or blue in large fowl. Anyone have eggs or know someone with chicks?

I'm even tempted by Dipsy's bantams.

I'm currently working on a poultry project and need to acquire some diverse bloodlines of Naked Necks. If anyone has eggs or chicks for sell PM me.

Hi! Fast forward and this is what the chicks pictured above (from the NN Frizz green-egger pen) will look like:

The splash Frizz NN girl is just about ready to start laying and that smooth splash NN I thought for the longest was a girl, but now thinking boy.

Got new NN chicks to show off from last weeks hatch --- BLUE BARRED Naked Necks!
Pics coming soon.

Here's my first hatched turken:

She's a cross since I only have 1 red hen. This might be a buff O cross so hopefully if it's a girl we'll have lovely golden feathers.

Here's a video of her (and others of course) at 1 week. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/video/video.php?v=665013540568

You
all will appreciate this...when I bought my first turken I was told that "yea, she's ugly, but I bought her because the breeder said she'll lay 4-5 eggs a day." I just said, "huh, wonder why they don't use them in commercial laying houses." She didn't get it and I didn't bother correcting her - she wasn't that nice to begin with.

LOVE THE FRIZZLES!!! I have considered doing show girls before. May have to get some blue ones someday.

If anybody wants some eggs, let me know. I could probably have some to send out within the next month or so. Although none of my NNs are pure, they are a cool bunch. Fertility on my eggs is great, and the roos are extremely active.

The top two are my roos:

The next two are my hens:

The first black hen (Mrs. Abe Lincoln) is broody right now and is going to be hatching out some chicks within the next week or so.

Here are two of my chicks that hatched out so far this year:

The yellow chick hatched out of a green egg, the black chick - I don't know who momma or daddy is yet!

I will be working on "project" NNs next year. I just got a some polish chicks and some cochin chicks. Since I don't know much about genetics, this will be a huge learning curve for me!

Edited to correct picture, I uploaded the same picture twice.
