Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Turkens seem so docile. Do they peck at each other the way other breeds do? I'm a wimp when it comes to the "natural pecking order" of things. I hate watching my chickens go to roost every night. They have more than enough roosting space but they peck each other all the while trying to find that perfect spot. Now, how come they don't just call "place back!!"

My birds just knock each other off and then settle down. They remind me of squabbling siblings.

Nava, the NN page is sweet especially the little chicks with their Orp Mom in the tall grass.

There was a movement to work for this goal in the NN club many years ago.. seems to have gone away though? It would be a great addition as it seems to be a popular color on NN.

SOOOO anyways.. pics?

edited to add, was going backwards in posts: Jim as in happycowboy on here? He had great blue NN! Seems he had to let his flock go(?).. be great if other people kept his line going.. I don't have any of his birds- too many birds here as is!

it's not Jim it's James as in JmHappycowboy from Philadelphia, MS
Kev, I went down there and I bought some orps from him and also all his Blue Naked Necks, he said that it was a good project to keep going, and I'm trying to do my best here...........

Sorry Nava, The lady I got my blue rooster from said she hatched him from eggs she got from Jim's Happy Cowboy here on BYC. I see that it is JM happy cowboy. She may have said JM's and I just misunderstood.
I am glad you are continuing his line of birds.
Do you show them?
I have a big blue roo like yours but my hens aren't that big. Of course they are not from that line.
I am hoping for a big season of hatching this next year.
Monty

Buck, I don't show poultry, but I'm planing on showing for my first time a pair of my Orps.
NN is my favorite breed of chickens, but I heard a lot about not been recognized on the poultry shows so I'm a little scared about just showing up there and them tell me to go back where I came from lol
do you show?

I ahve never shown but I am thinking about it.
I talked to the president of the National NN Club at the APA Nationals last week and he said in order to get blue approved as a color, there would have to be ten different people show at least five birds at certain sanctioned shows.
If I could help get the color approved for the standard by showing then I would do it.
There were only about ten or so NN's at the Nationals here last week and I think the same man had them all.
Where do you live? I am jin Oklahoma.

I am going to bring a hen to the fl poultry show in jan 8-9 and see how that goes.

Is there a book on breeding that you recommend? How do you get rid of the bow tie?

Loved your new pictures!

sorry don't know of any books.
I don't know much about breeding, I just happened to get a full NN hen and bred util I got full NN coceckerel, so what I'm going to do now is breed the son back to the mom, both full nn's.
