Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Disappointing indeed, Nava.

Check my page for pics of a couple of Nava's birds I hatched in December.

I know, but there would be another day.

Hey Dan, looks like you got a pure NN there, are the other chicks in the brooder from me too?
How old are they now?

I'm sooooooooo happy you got some chicks from the eggs I sent you

Congratulations!!!!!!

Those are the six I got from the eggs you sent, Nava. Three feathered chicks in black and one in blue that has like a double/pea comb and of course the two NNs. I'm pretty sure the one NN is the only roo in the bunch. They are real close to 12 weeks now, I couldn't be happier with them. Though my other hens are much less impressed with them.

How do you tell if your NN are purebred? Just because they have the naked neck gene doesn't mean that their purebred, right? Are the NN from hatcheries usually purebred?

No hatchery N-Necks are usualy not pure N-Neck.
If they are they aren't very good quality either.

This young fellow is hatchery

He is really naked. So I was assuming he was purebred...

I do not care about the discussion hatchery vs good breeder. Some of us are happy with our hatchery stock and cull or do not breed. RIP this topic or take it elsewhere.

Very pretty birds and very naked necks!

Thanks! I have to get a picture of my other one to show you. He is huge for his age and VERY pretty. Problem is he is also VERY mean to his fellow chickens and therefore separated. I am afraid it's in the genes so he might end up in BBQ sauce if I can't use him for breeding. He has a little more than just a fluff on his neck. So maybe he is not purebread? Pic will tell it all (next weekend, promise).
