Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'm sure this has been discussed but can I get the Readers Digest version?

How do you guys sell naked necks? I love them and hatch them but I cannot get rid of the extras! I've had an ad in the paper for extra chickens for a week and I get calls and say "the ones I have left are naked neck." The next question is almost always "what's a naked neck?" Then after that they say they'll think about it and call me back. Obviously I don't get a call back.

It's frustrating!

I have never needed to sell extra NN but usually I sell my extras by talking up the neighbors and asking if they know anyone interested in chicks, pullets or whatever and then if I get any contacts, I invite them over without giving to much details about the birds and then when I have their attention, most often I can get their interest because after all they came to my house with the intention of leaving with something.

Thanks you both for the comments. The NN come from different breeding pens. Looks like I have one blue, one racoon(the black baby) and four chipmunk coloring two of them do not have NN.

The Bantam Ameraucanas are from blue, black and splash parents and since two of them look Lavender maybe those were added into the bunch to make up the difference. One of them is black. One of the Lavender babies was pulled from the shell. All advice says not to assist but this time I am sure glad that I did. Both sets of eggs were ordered from BYC , the Ameraucanas were a very kind replacement set after I purchased a new incubator. It looks as if I still need to refine my incubating skills also.

Spoiler: if you are vegetarian, don't read this post!

So I butchered my first NN roo yesterday. First I plucked one of my regular roos and then I a tackled the NN. WoW! I was done in no time with the NN! And everything looked so clean. Definitely a plus! I will make sure I'll keep producing nore NNs for the grill. He was also quite a bit heavier than the regular roo (same age).

I'm a vegetarian (and have been for 9 years), but I read it anyway. I'm not adverse to eating my own raised birds but have never done it (I know they were happy and will hopefully be butchered humanely) ... how old was the roo? I've got 2 that are about 4 months old that I can't even give away.

This was them a few weeks ago...

He was about 22 weeks. From the looks of it I could have done it quite a bit earlier. He grew pretty fast.
Why can't you give away? Nobody interested in a nice meal? I tried to give mine away alive because I thought he was pretty (I still have his brother). But no takers. So this was plan B.
