Alrighty. I won't start my Serama/Turken experiment until next season at the very earliest, but I have a few questions that I hope nobody minds me asking here, and that I suppose I should ask BEFORE I get started.
Firstly, some very VERY elementary questions... That I'm sure are very silly.
When crossbreeding, does the rooster have any affect on egg color/size?
How exactly does size work in chickens? I've only studies breeding in horses before, so I'm guessing it's going to be different. (I know that, in horses, the foal will usually inherit one height or the other, but it occasionally will be somewhere in between. Also, a small horse bred to a large stud could be dangerous for the smaller mare, as the colt could be very large already when born. I'm /guessing/ that, since eggs are layed with OR without a rooster, he won't affect the eggs at all.)
If a chick hatches from a medium sized egg from a standard sized hen and a Serama sized rooster, what can I expect? Would the chick /hatch/ at the size the egg suggests and just not grow as big a purebred chick from the same sized egg?
Sorry for all the amateur questions, but it's better to ask than to go on without a clue, right?
