pgpoultry . . . I would choose Gordon for sure.

This is the pair I'll be focusing on hatching from in the spring. They were sired by my blue roo Ilsa but have different sussex mommas. The pullet has a nice black neck. My computer hung up for a minute trying to calculate what their offspring would be. As a side note I'll be trying my 2 'brahmington' pullets as well.

Oh, I've thrown in a pic of the penthouse so you can see what I'm talking about. I keep pine shavings in them and she roosts in the nest box.

KKH Diva looks wonderful and I am so happy that you are enjoying her.
PG I was going to say Cefnaur looks terrific and you know that I have a tiny hen who is black with gold. Also I was thinking that what is stopping you from using all of them to see a nice variety.

chickgrowerdan You have a nice looking pair and I bet that all of us will enjoy seeing their offsprings.

For my bantams I have two rooster but there is only one that I use for breeding. Victor a black skinned blue feather silkie who I think is gorgeous.

In the breeding pen with him I have two bantam NNs, one WCPolish who sleeps very close to Victor, one pretty black bantam Ameraucana. And because I am close to another BYC person we will most like have others just for fun.

I also have a LF NN in with a White Ameraucana and a bunch of other LF. It should be a fun summer watching all the chicks develop.And KKH and I plan on placing an order for chicks with NAVA . BLUES yeah !

NTF thank you ! I have high hope for some crested, black skinned showgirls down the road. Victor is a character also. After he adjust to being picked up he enjoys being held and petted. I held him for a while during a friends yard sale and he was a big hit especially with the kids. I never thought much about silkies until Victor.

I love my silkie boys and most do love to be held and fall asleep in your arms after that "initial pickup" I only have one awnry silkie boy that has it out for me, Big Red. It all stems from me giving him a bath and taking him to a show! LOL I have found with the silkie personality and the NN personality, the offspring are very docile and easy to handle. My girls usually end up being very petite. I can't wait to see some of Victor's babies!

Flower, Victor looks a real sweetie. Silkies are lovely and I'd like some, but Wales is known for mud and lots of rain, and we are in the mountains, so cold winters, too. NNs are fine here, though. I always wonder how Silkies and Polish find their way around as their eyes are usually buried in feathers.....maybe they have developed clucking echo-location! (That sounded a bit dubious)

Chickgrowerdan.... Did you steal Gordon and Blackchops and call them Dave and June?....they are uncannily alike.(except Gordon's wattles are now like tea plates and he has beady green eyes). We'll compare breeding notes next Spring!

KKH....what executive quarters! No wonder you call her Diva living in that penthouse. DO NOT let your friend have her, she needs to be a momma. Does she lay well?

How quickly animals adapt to the luxury lifestyle.....I have two huge Blue Faced Leicester ewes in our ag. shed as they injured their legs in the last few days and I am treating them regularly. They are very tame in any case, but they (Shaggy and Baldback) bleat as soon as the door opens.....BAAA....where's the ewe pellets? BAAA....where's the digestive biscuits?.....BAAAA....you going to stroke us then? Oh and there's two hens permanently in there too, as they don't like the attention of roosters, refuse to go out and sleep in a gap between straw bales under the cat's permanent bed. Well, enough of this madness....sorry.

You are right! Animals do learn the pampered life very quickly, and they come to expect the pampering!

pg, I was wondering the same thing about chickgrowerdan's birds. They are REALLY nice, I think I even see a beady green eye. I love the little...hmmm, I mean, big black pullet. So pretty! I really love the dark eye.
Diva is a gift from flower and she is not on the table...EVER! I adore this little bird. She's as sweet as she is lovely. She IS a good layer, but she fears all things roo. I'd love to have a pen of Silkies, they really are fun, but I'll have to wait until my pet population is down a bit. Alas, there's only so much that one superwoman can do.

chickgrowerdan , What's her background? Is Silkie the only way to get black skin? Can't wait to see their chickies in the Spring!

flower , Victor is a good looking bird. I kick myself when I think I didn't put him in with CoCo while I had the chance. LOL!! Of course, I would have regretted it because when I do spontaneous things like that I end up with brooder boxes all over the place in winter and regret my impulsiveness.
