It's much cuter now that it has dried. I've got to clean brooders today and get this new group moved out of the hatcher.

I've also had some *surprise* Naked Neck chicks hatching. That blue barred NN guy *took over* a Silkie pen after the Silkie roo suffered a head trauma and died. Funny looking little surprise chicks!

I can't wait to see pictures of your surprise chicks! I will have to show my son as he has been wanting to put a silkie roo in with our frizzled naked necks to see what the chicks would look like. He is so funny about his naked necks. Last night, he was showing pictures of his frizzled naked necks to his grandmother and she made a comment about how ugly they are... oh my... he came to their defense telling how they are actually very beautiful and are some of the sweetest chickens and best layers ever. Don't mess with my boys naked necks!

Got my chicks today and my little Naked Neck pullets. They all pretty much look like this some have half stripes or just on the head they are all yellow. this one had the full chipmunk stripe from head to body. What will she look like when she's older?
One is completely yellow though they are so adorable Lost one though DOA sucks

my friend named her Lady Sunshine lol

OOOhhh frizzled NNs,,,,,,,, just like Lisa's, Can't wait till I can make some of those. It is so tempting to order eggs but I want bantams.

The NN boys make good meat birds. They do get nice and big, and unlike the Delaware they don't eat you out of house and home. I had a batch of Del/NN crosses, mostly male and they were greedy pigs. The last one is gone, I don't tolerate roos that attack me, and this guy was bullying the girls terribly. He treated the NN hens poorly, but since he is gone, the girls are looking better and happier. I will put the roos I am keeping from my chicks that come next week w/ the NN hens as soon as they leave the brooder. I really miss my NN roos. They have been the best flock roosters I have had. If I get some good birds from Nava, as in close to Standard, I would like to work on bringing my NN more in line with SOP standards. Our NN mutts are really lovely, and mostly are sweet tempered, but there is a real need to "clean up" our birds. I love my NN and all their quirkiness, so that kind of discipline is really hard for me. The NN breed is so durable, they do well in nearly every climate, which I appreciate since our hot summers in TX has limited the breeds I can raise successfully. As much as I lust for the Dark Brahama, it is just too hot for all their heavy feathering and thick bodies. It breaks my heart when they die from heatstroke.
