Naked Neck/Turken Thread

It sounds as if covering her back with a saddle might help also. I tried that blue stuff and must not have covered enough area. But I think I would need to color my entire large fowl flock blue ! The bantams do not seem to have the same issue. But my little WCB Polish has lost some of her crest since she sticks her head along the fence line and the big girls have eaten the edges of her crest. I bet she likes that because it help her see better. ha ha. I wonder what she would look like with a bright blue half crest ?

Wicked blue mohawk! :)

These pictures are just as bad as my first post, I am sorry. This is the best I can do. I hope you can see enough to help. This is "Boo-Boo". She has been named this because of her lesions. This is the same chicken that I posted about a month ago. The other chicken got over it. I thought she was getting better from the triple antibiotic cream I was using. But, I was obviously wrong. :( Every time it looks like it is clearing up, it comes back! It never totally goes away. The chicks are outside now. No other chick has this problem and she is with all of them. I guess I will stop using the antibiotic cream because it is not working after all.

Any ideas????? She acts healthy and normal like the rest. I don't know what it is and I am afraid if I stop using the cream it will take over. I have not seen her getting pecked or picked on by the others.

I will post this again on emergencies, but nobody knew when I posted there last time either.

URTE I like you idea of the crosses because they sound very interesting. I was wondering if you have considered having a cross with the rumpless Arcuna and the NN bantams only ? Are you adding the RIR for production ? Around here the NNs are good producers although my bantam NN did stop during the cold winter months. I do not have any RIRs. My flock already has many different breeds since there are so many interesting breeds to keep.

HANNAH AND MOM Darth is a real beauty and the second bird is a real looker also. My guess on color is blue since blue comes in many different hues. And I agree about being mixed with a breed that hold the wings downward but it would be a guess as to which one. OEGB hold there wings downward and they seem to be the most common little birds that do. Lots of folks have OEGBs. They are used to reduce size and add colors.
Thank you! Darth is a cutie :)

I think the breeder that Camo's egg came from, only has Japanese bantams. He is tiny too, especially compared to his bantam cochin girlfriend.

Homeschool are those lesions wet or dry ? Do they have some fluid oozing out ?
Nothing oozing. They are dry and at first look like a white bump and next day look like a bloody scab. She scratches at them. It gets big like my old picture shows, which is like a weird scab that falls off and under it is a smaller red spot and then it seems to cycle through again

Home school I have similar questions? Can you tell if they are on other areas of her skin?

I wanted to share these pictures with everyone. The first is a picture of Darth ( Mr. Man). He is our six week old showgirl/cochin mix.

The second is of Camo, who is now three months old!!! Wow, he is growing:) My daughter Hannah is holding him.

Does anyone know what color he is? Originally we thought lavender, but now he has gold leakage. You can see it on his wing. Also, does he look like he is a Turken/Japanese bantam mix? He holds his wings down at an angle.

Thank you for looking!!

homeschoolchick, that's so odd, looks much like the ones on my guy who has since recovered just fine. Only one other bird had tinier spots but they didn't scab over and eventually that bird had nothing. It could be an allergic reaction to something. That would be my best guess right now.

I agree with flower on the cute little cockerel with the red leakage. . . Blue and he's a cutie! My barred cockerel, like his lavender dad, has leakage but it looks more like he's just dirty or tea stained.

Hi there!
I'm planning to start a new crossing to get a Rumpless Naked Neck Rhode Island Red Bantam.
According to what I have available, that are: RIR bantams, NN bantams and True Araucana bantams (rumpless), how would you suggest to start?
I was thinking to breed the NN to RIR and in 2 or 3 generations, get NNRIR without bowtie. And at the same time breed RIR to Araucanas and get Rumpless RIReds, and once I get those two lines, breed them to eachother and start selecting the Rumpless NN.
Unfortunately, here in Argentina, the Araucana bantams do not lay blue eggs, only the standard Araucanas do.

I'm very excited about this project, I'll look foreward to any questions or suggestions you may have.
I only have the NN bantams so far, so I still have time to withdraw or change my focus.
well, if there are no bantam Naked necks that lay blue eggs in Argentina,I would make it my personal goal to be the first one with them.

take your NN rooster an put him with some regular Araucana's so that you get the color and then just keep the smaller birds that lay blue eggs and you will have your bantam NN's layingblue eggs

But that's just my opinion.
