Naked Neck/Turken Thread

FLOWER: I never thought of mixing the RIR for production! lol I just love their color, and wanted to focus on that particular color, I'd love to get blacks and blues, but the only NN bantams that I found are BBR so I kind of have my hands tied.

NAVA: Thats a very good idea! and not that difficult, and they'll also come out rumpless so its very interesing!
Now I'll have to see if there are some blue eggers available o I'll just have to wait until spring...

homeschoolchick, that's so odd, looks much like the ones on my guy who has since recovered just fine. Only one other bird had tinier spots but they didn't scab over and eventually that bird had nothing. It could be an allergic reaction to something. That would be my best guess right now.
I agree with flower on the cute little cockerel with the red leakage. . . Blue and he's a cutie! My barred cockerel, like his lavender dad, has leakage but it looks more like he's just dirty or tea stained.
If it was an allergy. I have no clue what it would be from. I wish it would go away and never rear it's ugly head again! I am going to try not medicating. It just occurred to me, that maybe I keep spreading it every time I rub the antibiotic cream on.

Thanks, little Camo is well loved here! We think he is adorable. He has a little guy noise he makes when you talk to him. (tea stained is a cute way of describing it

Nothing oozing. They are dry and at first look like a white bump and next day look like a bloody scab. She scratches at them. It gets big like my old picture shows, which is like a weird scab that falls off and under it is a smaller red spot and then it seems to cycle through again

This sounds silly but honestly it sounds like psoriasis. Which has several components, autoimmune being the biggest. I had psoriasis all my life until I retired or was pregnant. Not to long ago I started taking Vitamin D 3 and B 6 and it has finally totally gone away. So thy to treat with vitamins if you are not doing so at this time. Also I am sure that Benadryl Ointment could be tried so that it would soften the spots and maybe she will not pick at them as I am sure that is half of the problem. Surely trying either or both benadryl and hydrocortisone over the counter dose ointment at least once or twice in a small area would not cause a problem.

I would doubt it is an allergy since all your chicks got it to a degree, and since all but one completely responded to antibiotic cream, and the one partially responded to the antibiotic cream I would think it is likely an infection process of some kind. This one may have had a worse exposure, or a weaker immune system. Since she only made a partial recovery w/ the OTC antibiotic cream I would think she needs stronger antibiotics, maybe even systemic rather then topical. If she does have a compromised immune system you also need to consider what other infection or disease processes she would/could be more suseptible and introduce to your flock.

About the infectious process, the fact that there are no additional symptoms makes me question infectious disease unless it is only a topical infection and not systemic.

True enough, unless she has enough immune system to "keep it at bay" for now, or is seriously masking symptoms (like a lot of animals do to keep from appearing weak to the pack). Or it could have started infectious like the others, but became autoimmune I think that is a common idea out there for autoimmune, the body gets seriously off track from an original infection (usually something that is a mundane infection to 99.9% of people or in this case chicks)

Kassaundra- none of the others had it. One other had one spot on it's neck that at the time I thought had it but it went away and never presented itself completely like the other, so maybe it was a peck. Since then she is the only one with this problem. I am wondering if I keep making it worse by rubbing stuff on her. I am going to leave it a lone for a few days and see what happens.

I do understand what you mean about not wanting to have an immunocompromised chicken, but for now I am thinking it is an external thing. Hoping to not be wrong, but will keep your suggestions in mind. Thank you very much for wanting to help. Please keep my chicken in your thoughts and please let me know if you think of anything else.

-Flower- thank you! When it comes to chickens, I don't think anything can be ruled out :) They are the most craziest, disease susceptible animals out there! (at least that is what it seems)

Please know I appreciate any thoughts! If you think it is crazy..I will still think it is helpful and appreciate any concern anyone has!
