OMG I saw your Frankenchicken pictures and thought - how did you get pictures of my Freddy? I swear that is EXACTLY what he looks like! But at one time he was fully feathered and fine! And yes, he has that horrible red skin just like his neck.

This is what he used to look like:

I have had him in a "private suite" as my husband calls it in the garage for a few days and he is getting some tiny new feathers on his neck where I know the girls were pecking him - but that was just aggravating an already bad situation and not the cause of it. They could not possibly have pecked him in all the places he is naked. So this is a genetic thing?

I hatched out giant frizzle cochins last spring, and every single one was GORGEOUS until.....they all started losing their feathers. Now I have a yard full of frankenchickens! They look so bad, but they still scratch and lay eggs like normal.

The breeder (on ebay) said that she specifically does not breed frizzle to frizzle in order to prevent this, but......the evidence speaks for itself. Although I must say that I had a 16 out of 16 hatch and survival.

Everytime someone comes over, they ask, "What's wrong with your chickens?" So I bought them all some saddles. Then someone else said, "What are those chickens wearing, bras?"

Will Freddy be okay in the sun? They have plenty of shade in their runs, but there is still a corner of sunshine, and of course that is where they all want to dustbathe, and it is so hot.

And my Brahmas are apparently fascinated by him and they surround him and peck at him and I know I have to move them out of there before I put him back or he will never have any neck feathers, but is he always doomed to be a target because he is red??

(He just wants his ladies back - he is very small, half some of their size - they are all Bantams -, and still protects his girls.)

Reallly don't think I could get Freddy to wear a 'bra'.
