Nathalie’s little flock (intro)

I was raised in suburbs and military bases, so I was used to that kind of situation. My husband grew up in the Texas Hill Country and was used to having a few neighbors so when he was put into a city environment, he didn't do well. (Many funny stories, as we met the second week of our first year of university, at the time a small city of about 40K people. More than he had dealt with regularly ever.)
Over the years, we've experimented how much "country", to how much city worked for us.
We're in a good spot now. And we have good neighbors.

Unfortunately, we also have feral hogs, feral dogs, coyotes, bobcats, and a possible puma. The smaller predators are pretty much a given these days, even for suburbs.
But, like someone reminded me a little bit ago, electric fences can take care of a whole bunch of problems, and flight netting isn't as expensive as it could be (because we have two nesting pairs of Northern Crested Caracara, and several Red-tailed hawks in the area). :barnie
Loved the pictures of your girls. And that's a gorgeous rooster!

A little update: 2 eggs have already pipped the outer shell:eek:this evening (it’s now 2am in the morning, we just watched the Eurovision Song Contest, and we -The Netherlands- won!).

My youngest son (Nick) checked on the eggs (i knew one already pipped) and noticed this big crack..
I actually have butterflies in my stomache:fl:love

How exciting! Two new babies to cuddle and care for! I couldn't imagine trying to go to sleep, even though it's so late (or so very early!).
That one chick has twisted himself around about 7 times! Poor thing.
I look forward to any news you feel comfortable enough to share!

Wow, we don’t have that kind of predators around here, anywhere i think..just foxes and some predator birds (not in our neighbourhood).
If we were moving to the country, we def would take measures to keep those predators on a distance.
Good to hear you’re in a good spot now, and maybe you’re heard of the (dutch?) saying “better to have a good neighbor than a friend far away”:)

Update:
This morning hb woke me before he went to work (at 5.30am!!) to tell me one chick had hatched..
