Nature-Themed Hatch-Along

:hugs sorry about the sebright! :hugs

Don't think that's anything you could've really seen or noticed prior to the eggtopsy.

Thank you! I was so surprised. It was incredibly drastic. We’ve had that happen with our first batch too, our Pavlovskaya. I’m wondering if it’s from the shipping process, or maybe the temperature is higher than the thermometer is actually reading. I have it at 100 (forced air incubators) but it reads at 99.5 on our calibrated hygrometer/thermometers. So wondering if it’s just registering at that in certain locations or if 100 degrees is actually where it’s at, and too high. More science to be done…

Oh my goodness this is so exciting!!!! You’re doing great! 🥰 I agree, there was probably nothing that you could have done with the crossbeak. I have had that happen a time or two, when I went to eggtopsy and found a deformity that kept the chick from pipping. It is so sad, but in a way it is also a mercy because chicks with deformities that are very pronounced like that, would probably have a very difficult life or would not live long at all. At least this sweet chick lived a very snuggly warm life growing in the shell and never had to know the hardship he would have faced. Hugs 💕

Thank you, I feel so much better. Still sad, but thankful that it wasn’t something I could have done to know and save it. I’m really hoping the others pip and hatch tonight so I do not stress on it tomorrow. It’ll be day 21 but with everyone else hatching today, I’m extra nervous. 🤞 I’m in bed but I’ll be getting up to do a final peek at around midnight to see if we’ve had the pipper hatch, or anyone else start.

The final count I’m calling at 17. 🥰 The others look like they passed maybe before lockdown that kiddo didn’t see when candling, and one that simply just didn’t break through. It didn’t seem shrink wrapped or like it drowned, so at a loss there.
The poor sweet Ameraucana seemed like it was struggling. I assisted as there was no blood, and the poor dear only has one eye and looks a little funky overall, and I’m not sure it will make it. :( But if there’s a miracle, it’ll be 18/24 total.

Overall I’m so grateful for such a good hatch out of the developers. I really was not expecting such a high hatch rate! The one Golden Sebright and the final Jungle Fowl Bantam were our late night hatches. 🥰
