NE Oklahoma Chicken Stock - Let's Plan!

June 16th sounds just wonderful for us, I hope it works for others also.
I'm not good at much of anything that anyone would think was interesting. But it'd be awesome if those multi-talented folks out there could whip something together!

Morning, Okies!

I’ve been thinking about ways to increase sales for those who plan to bring birds. Direct sales and swaps make sense for those with charisma and the gift of persuasion. Some of us aren’t sales people, though, so auctions really help us.

I’ve had a suggestion that we do a Pay the Seller auction in which the buyer pays the seller as soon as he or she wins the bid, thus removing the need for paperwork. I think this will work well if we remind folks ahead of time to bring cash, in small bills, so that change can be made easily.

If, as a group, we think this is a good idea, then I want to have the person who suggested this selling format to me to be our auctioneer. We can figure out how to compensate him for his time and expertise before our event takes place.

Let me know what you think. I'll let everyone know who made the suggestion after I've confirmed that he's interested in the job.

Edited for spelling.... Apparently ofter is a word

Good news, everyone: Michael tells me he will be our Pay the Seller auctioneer. We will put cages in line starting at 11:00, and the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale will begin at 12 noon. That way folks can come visit, buy some nice birds, and get home before they turn into pumpkins (the buyers, not the chickens).

If folks want to sell or swap, they're welcome to do that. If they have unsold birds at 11:00 and want them in the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale, that's great too.

Sellers need to put basic information on cages so that we can identify the breed, sex, and ages of birds being sold. It's much nicer to know what one is bidding on. Cages and poultry related items like waterers and feeders could be in the sale as well. I can come up with a 3 X 5 card and a twist tie for each cage. If anyone can think of an easier way to mark cages, let me know.

Folks need empty cages so they can transfer their new birds as they pay for them. Some enterprising person with a bunch of extra cages might be able to sell them to people who don't have enough cages. "Emergency cages.... Get your emergency cages here!" This might be a good way for a person to sell all those pet carriers they've been accumulating

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I think this is a wonderful idea. I filled out the reservation form and subscribed to the thread. I hope we will have the banner for the North Eastern Oklahoma Chicken Stock in June. If we can't get the banner, I have some ideas about making a big banner that's specific to our event. I'll let everyone know if our banner reservation is confirmed.

I have a feeling this is gonna be huge, especially after how big those last 2 poultry auctions have been at that location!

I have had a blast making piggy dolls for my daughter and granddaughters, so I will make a few more dolls with ceramic heads and put one in the raffle and one in the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale for our Chicken Stock. I will do my best to make one of them a chicken. That means I need to sculpt a chicken head, create a mold, and then pour a slip casting, but it's something I want to do for sales and swaps anyway. If you have anything you want to donate to the raffle, please let me know. I will keep a list. If you have chicken related items that you'd like to sell in the P.S.P.S. let me know that as well. When we get closer to our event date, I will make a flyer, and I'd like to include information that will encourage attendance.
