NE Oklahoma Chicken Stock - Let's Plan!

Have you considered doing this during the Azalea Festival?

In the 1980's we held the Azalea Classic Poultry Show at the Muskogee Fairgrounds. Sadly the members dropped out afterwards and there were only a few of us left. It was a great show.

That's another good idea. I will put this into my idea trap for planning for next year. I've not been to the Azalea Festival. How many people usually attend?

Lots and Lots and Lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From all over the country, Muskogee is packed beyond full at the Azalea Festival. I always go to HHP around the festival time, but not during it is a mad house zoo at that weekend.

Hello Mr. Hall! We do have a girl scout troop lined up for our concessions. Your family needs to bring some of those beautiful gigantic Orpingtons of yours!

We had some in .... Checotah...yesterday. Our latest new flock members. There is a fellow in Warner that has some of our lines now. We traded him for these. was there picking up the last of my Mom's stored items. Ran into walmart for a bit. I was not hiding. Even had me Exhibition Turkey Fanciers shirt on.

Jim

Wish I would have known you were here! Would have loved to take some blacks off you hands! What on earth did you trade with Jimmy? He didn't talk you into taking any of his lemons cuckoos

I posted this on the Kansas thread so that anyone from our neighboring state will know what the rules in Oklahoma are for sales and swaps.

Here’s the text of the response I just got from Michael Herrin, DVM. The rest of his credentials are at the bottom of his message.

Coral Hale,

There are no requirements to have a "swap meet" for poultry, hatching
eggs, or baby chicks. There is no permit or testing required.

Any birds or eggs that cross a state line would require pullorum/typhoid
testing and a certificate of veterinary inspection.

Thank you,

Many of our Okie members are licensed testers. I will do my best to have at least one official tester at the event with testing supplies. I will also let people know that if they are bringing eggs or birds, and they are already part of the N.P.I.P. program, they should bring documents reflecting their current N.P.I.P. number.

Very good. I will have testing equipment there if you need someone to but it isn't a requirement I really wouldn't waste my time. Ntechnically if they are bringing the birds from any state into ours, the birds would have to be checked at the state line, OT once they are in the building.

Can I make a note on the map that you offer testing, say in space #29, which is right across from your first space? I can put a table and chair in that space for you. Also, what do you need to charge per bird to recover the cost of your time and supplies?

Cost is generally 5.00 per bird since independent inspectors have to purchase their own materials. I can print off the forms so no one would have to bring their own.
Also, it will NOT certify the FLOCK, only the birds they bring in for THIS day. To be NPIP certified the inspector MUST visit the farm.

I need to clarify cost: If a person brings you three birds at the NEOCS and asks for the three to be tested, he or she will pay you $15.00. Is that correct?
