Hi all, We went outside this morning and found one of our hens lying there, appearing to be at death's doorstep. She's lying on her side. She has her eyes open and can lift her head a bit, and flaps her wing occasionally. She's been drinking some water we give her with a syringe but won't eat. I have no idea what happened - no signs of an injury or anything. I'm thinking for some reason she couldn't get back in the coop last night so spent the night exposed (and it got down to about 35 or 40degF here...). We've got her in the sun right now to try and warm her up.

Is there any nutrient-rich liquid or mash we can give her? Anybody have any idea what's going on? My heart breaks to see her suffer :(

Thank you in advance.

She may have had a stroke... Sometimes they can more or less recover from such an event (my parent's dog had a stroke and recovered very well) . Just keep her warm and feed her water. If you do not see any signs of improvement in the next 48 hours it may be something else.

Good luck!!
