Nebraskans Speak Up!!! NEBRASKA ROCKS!!

Pics
I am certainly hoping to make it to the poultry show on Saturday. I went last year on Sunday morning, as the website I had seen listed it as both days, but it was already over with.

So now I know better! I was hoping to have bbs orp hatching eggs in short order, but my lovely up and coming roo got killed on Friday. Another hit today of nine chickens and one peachick, thinking it must be coyote or several coyotes to decimate like that in several dif places around the acreage?

Anyhow, didnt realize bout the poultry auction, thanks for the info, Horsejody, would love to go if the weather is nice but I cant stand the cold.

How did you end up in Nebraska!?

Jill you're so funny, and this winter is going to be LONG, from reading the farmers almanac, our last snow will be in May 2010 and then the first snow of 2010 will be in September

Dont ask me, my mom was from Texas and married a yankee and I guess that was the end of it. So I shiver thru the whole darned fall, winter and part of the spring. I dont think its even decent unless its over 80.

Wildsky, did you read bout my lovely roo getting killed. He was protecting his girls, either coyote or dog, not sure which.

Yesterday it came again and got 9 more chickens and my peachick.

Everyone is in lockdown, even tho I dont quite have pens for everyone just yet. Without a roo to guard, it wiped me out, my lil half silkie roo lost all his girls, came home and he came running out of the brush, he must have just hid while his girls got wiped out, the lil stinker.

I had some lovely very young EE's I had hatched from Riderken, I was gonna keep one of the roo's, he just crowed for the first time yesterday morn, it was going to be gorgeous along with an exceptional looking hen, and they are both gone, five of them.

All Big Daddys girls, the orps and in town girls were locked up safe so they are ok.

Can just one dog or coyote take 9, scattered all over, or would it have to be a couple or more? No bodies, just a few piles of feathers and not from all of them, some are just mysteriously gone. Had to be big animal, our heavy wooden rocking deck chair was totally knocked over upside down. That took some effort, as I can barely lift the thing. I am sure one of the birds tried jumping on the back of the chair and predator jumped up on it, and it flipped, but its a very solid heavy chair, so had to be some heavyweight thing.

Yes they can, but they usually leave some bodies laying around, Hawks will usually carry everything off to a safe distance for them.

This year we have more Large Hawks and more falcons then in the past few years.
They are also coming closer to the house and flying lower .

Wow Jill I have no clue, it sounds strange and too much for one dog to do...

When we had two dogs attack, one carried off one chicken, and the other hung around to "play" for a while, one being played with got ripped up and we had to put her down, the one that got carried off got away and we found her in pretty good condition. But still - each dog only got one each. They didn't have a lot of time.

Hey any one in Nebraska interested in a Red Pyle Roo or two? I have two roos and a hen to go with one if any one is .
They are actually from my Pyle roo and a small banty hen of some sort.
PM me if ya want one.
Thanks and sorry to kind of hijack

I know I am not from NE, but from sw IA, very close! I always go to the palmyra sale, you can get some great deals, seems like what I want always sell high. Two years ago a guy came in with a lot of nice batams (I don't have any or any use for them) but he had a pair of blue andalusians that were beautiful, I bid, but they went very high, I think I got out at 28 per bird. Paid more then that for a pair of snowy calls last year, also some very nice calls in that guys bunch of birds. The spring sale this year was a bust, nothing there I had to have.
Chicken whisperer, what kind of pheasants are you looking for, I have ringnecks both normal and melanistic (like 7,000), no fancy ones though. We should all try to meet up, I don't have a byc hoodie, guess I need to get one!

Last spring, somebody brought in a lot of nice bantams. If you stayed till the end, there was some beautiful MF D'uccles that went for $6 each. I didn't buy them because my neighbor and I already had 8 chickens in the back seat for the ride home.
