so anyway...i looked this necrotic thing up and read about it. my hen the rir does have diarrhea..she is thin...and her tummy is a little swollen. i wonder if this is what she has?
my ee hen feels completely normal...she just sint acting right. can she get sick that fast ..my goodness 2 days ago she was running around with everyone else eating ans hacing a great time and then all the sudden she is ill.
have any of you had any experience with this necrotic enteritis? not that i know this is what they have. but i am guessing.

My reply would be, have they ever been wormed? And if they have what did you worm for and with?

Many times its best to start with the easy things first because more often than not that's what it is.

Have you taken fecal samples to the vet and had them look to see what parasite they might or might not have?

no i havent wormed them before. is worming something you have to do on a regular basis? also...the wormer they got today is piperazine. i have not done a fecal.....i will see if i can get a sample from the both of them and call my vet and drop it off.
thanks for the help

Some areas have some heavy loads of parasites so a good worming program is necessary. But without a fecal you can't know for certain what you might be dealing with.

Of course you already know that piperzine only addresses the round worms. I have a heavy load of capillaria on my property. Nasty little buggers so I've had to implement a more aggressive worming program to address them.

When you take the sample collect from several different birds. There is the chance that the one you choose will be the one that comes up negative so more is better.

Diana, loved that link. I printed it out for my files. Going to save it on the puter too.

Veronica, read through that link, its excellent.

diana...i did worm them and they are just about done with their drinking water that contains the piperazine. the bird that is sick does not drink on her own but i give her as much as i think she can handle. what else should i do for her?
i also bought yogurt and made her eat some yesterday and i bought some tonight and will give it to her in the morning as well as the others. should i mix the yoogurt with something? also i was talking to wes and we are thinking that for some reason her crop is not emptying. when i feel it it has food in ti but she is not eating on her own. i am giving her vegetable oil and massaging her crop.i bought some mineral oil tonight ans will use that in the morning instead. can you think of anything else i should do?

well, I would have a faecal for sure (there might be more than one thing going on or a type of worm or protozoa that the piperazine is not effective for) ... if it is sour crop and the feed isnt moving through you will see this the next morning by feeling the crop before she has a chance to eat...
