Necrotic tissue on leg

I was thinking of just wrapping the toe kind of like you do for curled toes on chicks. It straightens out mostly but I can feel her pulling it back closed. She has been scratching around in the garden but she is using the top of her foot. Even if she can't walk properly on her leg if her toes are open it will make things alot more comfortable for her.

Try it and see! You never know it may work.

Oh...let's think for a minute. They do make bird booties too! Someone else had a hen with toes that curled under, the bootie helped her walk.
One is for chickens, the other is for ducks. If you are crafty, you may be able to fashion one yourself too

Would definitely try to splint the foot/toes somehow,
not going to straighten out on it's own.

That's what I thought. I'll try to splint it tonight when I get home. I think I'll try a ice lolly stick and some vet wrap. it will work!

I managed to splint her toes. She wasn't happy about it but hopefully it will help her straighten them out. I had to be careful because of her feathers coming through. They are really stiff and they won't go flat on the floor. I'm still giving her metacam for the swelling. I'll leave the splint on till the weekend and see if she can keep them straight.

And she layed another egg! So it was egg on toast for tea and I shared with her!

Meat trays made of styrofoam from the grocery stores can be cut and doubled or tripled to make a shoe. Vet wrap or tape is used to secure the foot to the foam.

Can she walk with that on?

She is hopping mostly and occasionally she will put that leg down for balance. She seems to be struggling to move her leg forward for a normal movement.

Might take her some practice....tendons are probably tight, so some PT on your part to increase range of motion might help.
