Necrotic tissue on leg

Pics
Well I've just got back from the vet. It's a bit of a mixed bag really. Turns out that she has had a broken leg. Wether she had it before the mud ball or if the mud ball caused it is unsure. But her leg has healed but not quite straight, the lump at the top of her leg that @aart pointed out, that I thought was a couple of blocked feather follicles, is actually a callus that has formed around the bone. There is also likely to be tendon damage. She prescribed another week of metacam and advised me to put her in a sling to try and take most of the weight off her leg so it hangs down just touching the floor. This should help her get used to holding her leg in a more natural position. But she was impressed with how good her overall condition is considering what has happened to her. She weighs a healthy 920g!
And I have a friend for speckle coming tomorrow. The person I got speckle from is letting me have the other one she has who happens to be her sister! So they will probably fall out straight away!

Sorry, just coming aboard. I love my bantam cochins and your girl is gorgeous! And her sister too! :love

Looks like you’ve done some great work already, and very nice that you found a good vet. Part of the beauty of the cochins are their beautiful leg feathers, but they also cause us to miss feet issues sometimes. Mine regularly get mud balls on their toenails. I crack them off with pliers. I don’t see them often, but hear them when they walk on the coop or ramp. Lol. When I do, they high-step for a couple days, like they still have the balls, but eventually they work it out. :p

Anxious now to watch how she progresses!

Oh, nice eggs too. My girls lay pretty well, when I can keep them from being broody.
