Hi again i walked into my pigeon loft were i found a baby has hatched :D as i went back into my house i came back out in about 1 hour and i look at the other egg in the nest it was cracked by a parent i wanted to know will that egg survive and the chick has opened it more i have one other question i had a homer pigeon that kept going back into his original loft but he has mated in my loft and now has 2 eggs if i let him out after he hatches them will he come back to my loft

The second egg may or may not hatch - frequently there is a slight to as much as 2 day time difference in hatching of nestmates. Your homer cock MAY stay at your loft, but it is far more likely that he will return to his original home - it's what he is bred to do.

I might suggest that you stop bothering the parents so that they do not further crack the egg. If the squab is viable, it will hatch on it's own.

You will probably have to keep that homer cock prisoner for the rest of his life Aaron. You do have a slight chance of him stay home after he has raised 3 consecutive batches of youngsters in your loft.

I would not even think of letting him out till then. I bought a homer cock which was never released from his loft or flew outside that flew directly home over 100 miles away after raising 3 batches of young in my loft. That is what good homers are bred to do. Good luck Aaron and keep me posted.
