Awww... don't feel so bad.. out of 24 that I set only 2 hatched. I had 2 that were still alive at lockdown and saw no more rocking yesterday. I opened them this morning and they were gone too. I think one that I opened would have made it if I helped sooner, it was fully formed and had absorbed the yolk. It was just in a horrible position, and twisted. Guess it wasn't meant to be

I think my 2 that pipped yesterday are dead too. Or else they are taking a long rest.

I though they would be out this morning, but now they are just sitting there while the others are cracking around them. I hope you get a few out. or try again.

they are cute. what kind are they. I see 2 more trying to hatch in the bator. that will bring it to 10. still waiting on the rest to see what they will do and have to go back to wrk tomorrow. YUCK

I am trying to set up an area for the others now. Do any of you give yours Grow Gel? I have some that I got when Dh ordered chicks last year and never used it. We had some from another shipment. says there is enough in there for 100 baby chicks do not have that many lol

deana

Their from my stock I call them Texas Reds.

InHisService, So sorry about your death. I to had eggs in the bator and on Saturday night three hatched and on Sunday another one tried but like yours died fully developed in the shell. I was going to help but remembered reading that it can take awhile and to let them try. Later when I "helped" it was dead. The other four eggs were just yolks. I didn't candle, I wanted to be surprised.
Of the three that hatched I thought they were straight RIR's but two of them have blonde bellies and some of the wing is that color. I do have a strange Silver Campine in the pen. The reason I say strange is for 10 months we thought it was a female but now as soon as the RIR Roo gets off a hen, IT gets on.
My grand daughter wanted the one white egg I put in to hatch but it wasn't fertile so am going to set a couple of eggs again later this week and hope to have ONE white egg hatch out.
CONGRATS to everyone who has hatched and GOOD LUCK to you all that are waiting or going to hatch out.

I was *supposed* to be putting my 8 Rouen/Runner duck eggs and 3 barnyard mix chicken eggs in the hatcher late last night/early this morning for hatching on Wednesday. However, when I turned them Saturday night before bed, I found 3 pipped duck eggs, so I stuck them in our homemade hatcher right away (it's made from an old mini wine refrigerator).

This one is one I had to help this morning. It had been pipped for about 36 hours and wasn't making any progress (I took this picture last night, and it was still in this same position this morning at 7:00 AM)

Here's a pic of the one I helped (in the back lying down) and another I found hatched when I woke up this morning.

Here's a better shot of the one that hatched sometime this morning:

I have 3 more pips on duck eggs, and 1 chicken egg is pipped and working furiously. I really want these chicken eggs to do well, because I have a broody that NEEDS these babies

Thanks...I just kinda had to get that out before my 11 yo DD and 13 yo DS get off the bus this afternoon. They will be a little upset/disappointed. We just got 8 cornish x last week, so at least we have some peeps, just can't get attached to meaties like we always do to layers. I keep telling my kids the meaties aren't cute like the ones we will be hatching

Since they don't stink, I guess I will give them another day or 2

BTW, congrats to everyone else with successes and good luck to those still waiting

I set 41 and have already pulled 18 dry chicks out to make room for the others still hatching or drying off. Looks like there might be 10 already hatched but still wet and at least 3 more pips!!

I have lost count but I think this is around my 4th or 5th hatch and I still get excited about it!
