Need a little help!

So, I've been feeding the birds and pigeons for almost a year. My neighbor came and said they didn't like me doing that. I want to "move" the feeding to my back yard. I started throwing seeds on the roof to move them. How long do you think it will take them to learn that is were they will eat? Oh, and over here where I live, no one really cares about the wildlife.

I don't know about those 2 breeds specifically, but I know it usually takes my yard birds a week to 2 weeks to find new feeders.

Before we moved to where we are now, we had neighbors who hated birds. This woman would smear vegetable shortening all over the top of the fence so they wouldn't land on it. It didn't work, just dripped in a spectacular, oily fashion down their fence.

The man made mention one day that his wife didn't like the birds and our feeders. So, in good neighbor spirit, I bought a feeding station and added 3 more, within 6 feet of the property line.

I swear I'm not usually spiteful, but these were the worst neighbors ever. Truly awful, bitter, "old" people. Except that they weren't. They were only in their 60s, but acted like elderly, angry hermits.

There was nothing they could do. I could hang as many feeders in my yard as I wanted, and our property was meticulously maintained.

Now we live on 3 acres, with no terribly close neighbors, and it's perfect.

Yes! Thank you so much this is so helpful! I'm going to be moving soon to 5 acres, so I have been feeding them less. Yeah, only one of my neighbors likes the pigeons since he had a pet one.

I understand not wanting to feed birds in your own property. But trying to tell your neighbors not to on theirs is ridiculous. I'm glad you'll have your own space soon. I was feeding my birds less as we approached our move date too. I hated it, seeing them out there and knowing I was leaving and couldn't feed them.

I don't miss one single thing about that town, the neighborhood, or even the house we called home for 10 years. Only those birds.

I do and only will feed them on my property sorry if that was miss understood.

Birds are very visual, and they fly. Move the feed from the front to the back, and as long as it can be seen from the air, they'll find it.

Age has nothing to do with it. I'm up there, and LUV feeding my wild birds. (year round) I also feed the resident squirrels. Their fave is BOSS. And of course not to forget the feral rescue cats.
It seems there is no shortage of CRUEL,, inconsiderate people. But I also believe in KARMA. When you do good,, good comes to you. Flipside is also true.

I couldn't agree more! I mainly said "old" as a joke, when people talk about that 'that grouchy old man" up the street or whatever.

I'm 40, and my family and friends tease me about my old person hobbies. Always lovingly, of course. I quilt, embroider, garden, raise houseplants, feed any animal that comes around, and of course, i now spoil my chickens.

When we moved in here, within days there were feral cats showing up. The population was getting ridiculous. It's much better now, as over the street years we've lived here, we've been able to earn the trust of them to get them fixed. We have the last mama cat who isn't fixed, and her 2, 3-week-old kittens, inside our house right now. When the babies are weaned, she'll get spayed. The babies are precious and already have wonderful homes lined up.

You used the word joy, and there is no better word. Whether it's seeing a new bird species, or song a baby kitten that i know would not have loved without us find a new home, it brings me joy.
