Need a simple plan please

Yeah, thoes shed prices are pretty in line for the basics up here too. If you want future storage and the such, I say just go with that... and don't even bother with the pop door yet... just open up the human door till you get time to make modifications.

I have the building skills - and the tools. It's really a matter of time Mac, and to an extent the cash. I've been ignoring client work (I do web development) as much as possible all summer and it's catching up with me. If I don't get some projects done before long, I'll have a general revolt and risk losing clients who I don't want to lose.

Additionally, given the time of a new building season next spring, I want to do something like this: http://www.pacifier.com/~kenb/chickieandthedumplings/newcoop.html

These
are also appealing:

My idea is to get something put together quickly that will carry us over the winter, and let me kick back a bit and deal with client stuff. I've been building our garden, greenhouse and a 20x20 carport/barn this summer and I'm sort of burned out.

Those are all just sheds with different cap heights and roof pitches. They all go together the same. It sounds like you know what to do, just go get some lumber and build the basic frame and roofline you want over a weekend. Add the frills like windows, trim, hen doors, and extended runs later...

I will post a picture tomorrow.
I Just Started Makeing a Small Coop Today for my daughters 4 Polish.
I do Silkies and have to keep hers seperated. They have been free ranging during the days all summer.
I told her nothing fancy and so far she seems to be happy with what I am doing.
I am putting it up off the ground using Garden timbers/Landscape wood because I already had three
peices that were 8 feet long So I used 2 for the sides and cut one for the front & Back making it oblong.

The Coop part will be 30inches wide and 4 foot long and in front of that will be a wire run that is 30 inches X 4 Foot long. It is almost done I hope to finish it Wednesday night then I will paint it Red&White this weekend to match everything else. I Only Made a 3 inch slant on the roof. You should be able to get the desired effect with a 6 inch slant for a bigger version of what I am doing. Example if you Found & Marked the middle of one 4X8 Sheet on one side(48inches) then on the other side mark the 42 inch spot then use a long peice of wood to draw a line from one side to the other cut on the slant / and you have your sides

Mine took 2 peices of Plywood so if you did a 4X8 I think you may only need 4 sheets if you dont make any mistakes. I used 2X2's You should be able to use 2X3's they are cheaper BUT I would use the treated lumber like I did or the treated 2X4's for the base so it wont rot on ya You should only need 4 of them and about 10 of the 2X3's
Even going Small & Simple I may still run ya about $150
Hinges/2 sizes of screws/latches/Plywood/2X3's/Treated 2X4's

ALL MOST DONE. This is for one Reg Polish & 3 Bantam Polish.
I STILL HAVE TO PUT THE SHINGLES ON. They are just laying there.
I Need to Paint/Stain it
And I still need to add the front doors

Greg, you're kicking around ideas, so here's one.
How about selling the chickens?
Then you've got no worries about time and building concerns. Spend the winter planning and preparing for a better, more permanent structure in the Spring.
And when Spring does come, you'll be over your burnout and be eager to tackle your well laid out plans.

Good luck....spot

Arghhh! Shreek! I don't think so. They are our buddies! How could you sell family members?

Hey, a motivating factor of our getting chickens is that the neighbor has some and we have been helping care for them. They just started laying this week - woo hoo!

I was in their coop today installing some plywood to keep them from roosting in the nesting boxes and when I was done, one of the hens proceeded to jump up and make herself comfortable. No egg while we were watching, but it sure looked like it was about to happen. What a trip man...
