Need advice ASAP

I just got my 15 chicks from Cackle hatchery and one of the silver laced wydonette (sp?) was dead and 2 others look horrible. The rest - Rhode Island Red and Cinnamon queen look great. They must be a weaker type chicken.

I've given them all water, they aren't cold (2 heat lamps). They are in the house. The feed is spread out on white paper towels. Any suggestions?

Give them time, they will need to warm up eat and drink. Good luck!

if you call the hatchery, they will replace those chicks.

try putting some sugar in the water...that usually perks them up

If you dipped their beaks in sugar water, there isn't much else to do but see what happens. I hope the perk up.

Sounds like shipping fatigue. Make sure they ALL know where the food and water is.

Let me ask this, our local feed store will have new babies this next wednesday. That would make them a week apart in age. Would that be a bad idea to mix them?

I have, without a problem. I think this usually goes OK when they are that young.

I've mixed some at different ages, it was all fine. Just try not to get super tiny chicks and put them in the cage with much bigger chicks. Even then though, you may be fine.

2 heat lamps? how big is the brooder and how many watts are the bulbs?
