Warning! Long post I apologize ahead of time.

Hi, I am looking for anyone with advice or experience with hatching chicks naturally by mom but ended up with a chick having pasty butt and then almost dying but brought back to life.

My serama hen hatched out 4 babies last Wednesday. All hatched out super alert and healthy. Next morning I realized one had gotten pasty butt. (Which I had dealt with before with the hen when I got her as a chick.) anyways I cleaned up the pasty butt and returned her to her mom. She did act slower than the rest at this point and only wanted to sleep under mom. The droopy wings, head down, eyes closed, very tired. I figured it was just from the pasty butt.

Next morning. I found her upside down and limp, ice cold I thought she was dead. Brought her inside and had planned on burying her, made a box up and everything. But then she started to move and move her beak, and her little feet I couldn’t believe it I thought I was imagining it. I quickly got her under a heat lamp and she began to come back to life. I started giving her a syringe with water and nutri-drench and put her in her own cage with the heat lamp food water etc.

So now my problem and where I really need help. I have been taking care of her for the last 3 days day and night. She is too weak to return to mom or have a sibling with her. I have been syringe feeding her water diluted with nurti-drench and wetted chick starter. She started eating the wet chick starter on her own off of my finger yesterday she had trouble doing so but still managed to eat quite a bit and was very content afterwards. I’ve tired to get her to eat dry food but it’s too hard for her. I have cleared her eyes with vetricyn. So she can open them. They sometimes get food or bedding in them so I make sure to keep them clean and clear. I make sure to feed her or water her every 30 mins or so. But she just doesn’t seem to be improving like I had hoped. She’s still very sleepy alert only during feedings and only for a short while. She can get around but not very well. She mostly just sleeps. Also she has normal poops now. I still keep an eye on her butt for pasting but she seems to do well now in the pooping area. Also her navel is fine and not infected or any issues.

Is there anything else I can do? Do you think she will get better? I am trying to be hopeful. I just want to do if anyone else has dealt with a chick like this? She will be a week old Wednesday. Sorry for such a long post. Just a super concerned chicken mama trying to do everything to help her get better.

I attached two pictures of her sleeping in her favorite spots. She also likes my hand to sleep in inside her cage. She was the third chick to hatch and she is so cute ❤

Update: still not doing great. Very sleepy and not interested in food or water. I have gotten some in her though. Not a lot of peeping going on either unless I hold her. I am worried for the worst. ☹️

I agree. She is extemely cute, I hope you can raise more of those in the future. Its good to hear from you too.

Is she pooping normally? A cloth or paper towel soppy with warm water or saline pressed against the vent and a gentle massage may start her up if she still has internal pasty butt.

Sadly I lost her last night in my hands 😢 she was my first chick loss and she took a little piece of my heart with her. I am glad that she is free now and I still have her siblings, mom and dad❤️
