Need advice on Canda geese!!!

I found a pair of Canda geese and I am very interested in them! What needs do they require? I have a 8'x8'x2' deep pond they can have access to always. How many sqft per bird? And what should I give them for nesting? The guy told me they do not need a permit unless you are going to trade or sell them in the future is that true? And what is a fair price for a pair?

here in Florida you need a permit to keep or sell. Mine are pinioned, and have free range to grass and the yard. I really enjoy them, they are friendly and talkative.

Not the best pick, .... dogs always find the one dirt hole in the yard...... This is Candy the CAN goose. She thinks she's a dog and if you bark at her she comes to you... LOL I now have 4 others so she is slowing becoming a goose now..... but still comes to barking.

You got bad info....you must have a Federal permit for them, plus some states you will need a state permit, Ohio for sure. In the USA its illegal to have them without a permit , or their eggs or young, no matter how you got them.

It's not that you need a Federal Permit to keep them, just for sales and disposal, BUT you do need a 3-186 transfer paper from a licensed seller (they must ahve the sales and disposal permit). I do not knopw what the regulations are in your State. Each State may be more strict than the Federal regualtions, and some (most?) are, others are the same as Federal Regulations.

Hmm now that I need a permit I am a little less interested. The guy clearly said you dont need one. I will have to look into getting one!!!

When you apply for a federal/state permit to possess live Migratory gamebirds you make yourself open to unannounced visits from federal/state game wardens to inspect your birds and paperwork you must keep current for every bird and egg. I found this out when I was considering getting wood ducks this fall and checked into the federal permit. I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle.

keeping the paperwork isn't hard, and in theory you shouldn't have to worry about inspections, because following the space rules, and keeping clean pens should be a given... Just saying. I raise giant's and love keeping Canada geese I'd give it a try if I was you.

where do you go for a permit? I have had Cans for 7 years now without one. Heck you can even buy Cans at the Dothan Flea market. I have 6 Now.
