I had a rooster and a chicken. I didn’t intend of having them. A friend gave me some eggs from his farm and my daughter grabbed a few and put them in an incubator she got online and I ended up with a rooster and hen. This morning a person working at my house let them out of the cage I keep them in and a fox killed the chicken. I am crushed. Now I don’t know what to do with the rooster. I feel it is mean to let him live alone. He seemed to love the chicken and was always protecting her and sitting almost on top of her constantly. I fear if I give him to my friend with a flock he’ll be pecked to death. On top of it his beak is very crooked (like a scissor beak) and I have to chop his food finely & put it in a deep bowl. He’d never survive on a regular farm. Would I be able to get a chicken or 2 and integrate them? I can’t get much more as my town doesn’t allow farm animals so I keep him hiding in my backyard. Please help.

If you can't keep chickens, get rid of him. As soon as he learns to "talk" everyone in the neighborhood will know you've got one.

Thank you for your advice. I went to a local butcher shop yesterday and bought two small chickens that were going to be someone’s dinner. The rooster seems to like them. As far as him “talking,” he is quite loud but luckily I live on a large property on a cliff, so I keep him down the hill a bit and the sound seems to travel out.
Sadly, he sat in the chicken who was killed nesting box yesterday all day making a very strange sort of howling cry that I have never heard before. I do believe he’s distraught about his chicken being gone. Who knew these guys had such feelings.
