NEED CROP HELP

Hi guys,

My hen has an impacted crop going on 3 days. She has been off food for almost 48 hrs and still has water. I've been giving her a stool softener. All that was recommended by someone on here. She has two loose droppings in her tub right now but she is bcoming very lethargic and when I tried give her a little something to eat she wants no parts of it, refused water, and is not even up for walking. Is she too far gone to help? Please share advice I hate to see her suffer as she hasnt even begun laying yet (but has reaches that age point).

Sorry you are having issues. Crop trouble can be frustrating as it can be difficult to figure out exactly what is going on.

Sometimes the crop does not empty due to a problem farther down the pipe, so to speak, from foreign objects or disease, and for those cases there is not much you can do.
If it is an impaction in the crop itself then the best hope is to break it up and get it to move.
If that doesn't work, then crop surgery might, and for that I would highly recommend a vet. There are some that have done it themselves, and you can find those posts by searching. Same with vomiting the bird. You have to know what you are doing, or the bird will suffocate.
This is a concoction that I have used and had some success with :
1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp ginger powder, 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder, 1/2 tsp chili powder, squirt of lemon juice, 2 Tbsp water. Mix all together thoroughly and give with oral syringe or dropper about .5 ml at a time until all is given, and massage the crop gently but thoroughly with each ml. trying to loosen and break up the contents of the crop. Do this 3 times a day until you have improvement. Give slowly, and place in the front of the beak and give her time to swallow. Don't squirt down the throat or you risk aspiration of the liquid.
Some people recommend giving olive oil also.
Make sure the bird is getting plenty of fluids, as dehydration can cause things to slow down or get stuck.
If you have a blockage it depends on what the blockage is, and where the blockage is.
I don't know if you have a vet available, but blockages/impactions will sometimes show up on xray, depending on what they are.
