Hello, I am new to the site - posting a question. but I have been following it for 2 years and found many great and useful info. THANK YOU ALL!!! I need some help with ducks now and I think there may be someone out there who could help me.
I bought 2 weeks ago a ''5 month old pekin female duck'' from a lady that had several (12). I got her for my 1 year old male as a companion. now I am not sure if she is a female and that is concerning.
here is what is happening:
the 1 year old male that I had, grew up with humans only. he has been mounting our shoes and has always been the alfa male. he is aggressive and is biting us as well (but not too painful). Since ''she'' or the new duck arrived, his behavior had not changed. he still bites us and mounts the shoes, not her. they go everywhere together and swim together in my pool. they are not aggressive against each other but I never noticed one trying to mount the other.
the female -
- SIZE - she is bigger in size then the male I have, but this may mean nothing.
- AGE - I was told she was 5+ months old, by now she would be almost 6. she has not laid an egg yet, but since I only had her for 2 weeks and moved her to a new environment - this may not be unusual.
- VOICE - she sounds just as raspy as the male. not the loud ''quack'' noise that females are associated with
- FEATHERS - when I got her the tale feathers were straight and flat. no drake feather. 2 days ago I saw one back feather curling up. it stayed curled up today too. I don't know if this is an actual drake feather since she is too old to not have had one. so... unsure...
- GENITALS - I fallowed the description of how to check the vent for genitals. I did this twice on the male and I was successful in confirming/seeing, that he is a definite male. I checked on the female once yesterday and twice today, to make sure I did it right. no sign for a penis, only the pink tissue that was described. I did it correctly and saw nothing. little poop came out but nothing else.
- SOOOO - .... this is very confusing. can someone help me? is she a SHE or a HE?
please help, the matter is time sensitive. thank you much!!!!!!!!!!
