Need hatch buddies for or close to the 18th!

I checked my eggs today too! Of the 24, about 10 of them had funny shaped air sacs, 8 had definite veining, 4 have possible veining, 4 are too dark to see anything, 2 were cracked and 6 are possible duds.

They're mostly EE's, tho. Even as light as that shell looks on the outside, some are just too darned thick and dark to see much of anything on the inside, so I'm not going to worry about the duds until everyone else is clearly moving.

As for the odd shaped air sacs- I've read that its not unusual for that to happen with shipped eggs and people have had successful hatches despite the deformity, so I'm trying to not worry about it... much. One of them has the egg sac going almost down to the bottom of the egg!

Are you concerned that they may not be fertile because they are young pullets? I've heard that can be a concern. But, if you have several different girls, then you just may have some fertile ones in there, because I've heard that some young pullets are good to go.

Well yeah, I am concerned about that a little, but my main concern is that the 2 last roos that we had may NOT have done their business.

Two of our girls didn't like the dominant roo and the other one was a 'late bloomer' so not sure he had a clue of what to do.

The other 2 girls I am just not even sure that either of the boys was even with at any time.

The roos have not been gone long and I collected these eggs about a week to a week and a half after they left.

just got 12 various eggs from the neighbor...put them under my broody silkie today...so im thinking around the 20th i will have babies...."praying".....i wish everyone else luck on theres!!! its gonna be like xmas for me...not even sure what i got...thinking that two r easter eggers...they r light green eggs!!! think he said he had silkies too!!! :).....

You have any yet?

I just had 35 hatch and put the Nov. 2nd eggs in the hatcher. The Nov 2nd hatch is from some fairly new layers. I have been checking the eggs for fertility. Here are a couple of pics of most of the chicks that just hatched. I think there were a few more. One little BR hatched with some unabsorbed yolk sack. I had to keep it separated because the other chicks started to peck at the yolk sack and it started bleeding. I got the bleeding to stop pretty quick and it is walking around with it's yolk sack.

How cute! Check out the two checking you out. One above the light, and one below the light. Too cute, thanks for sharing!

And, oooh, what is that silver looking one in the first picture in the left top area? Pretty color.

Two and a half hrs. of power outage. I had some in another bator..one pipped. I took it out to our little SUV and plugged it in. They rolled around a bit. Was worried about that, but now there are two pipped in that bator.
My others, that we are doing for this thread, had a very heavy blanket thrown over it. It got down to 75 by the time the power came back on. Not too bad. Will candle later.
