I am confused... what is the right humidity for a Hovabator still air?
everywhere I look is a DIFFERENT number!

Hi,

I started about 6 dozen Saturday the 16th at 4 pm I have two dozen mixed eggs from three different of my own pens, 2 dozen giant blue cochins, and 2 dozen blue orpingtons hoping for a really great first hatch of the year.

A few of us had a lengthy discussion about humidity, maybe a year ago, and one of the members put a hygrometer/thermometer under her brooding hen, and the humidity was right around 37%, then went to about 50% the last few days. So that's what I aim for, although for the last few days I go to about 55%. The pipped or peeped eggs seem to drive up the humidity as well.

Of course, I had things perfect the last 3 days, put my eggs in at 9pm last night and can't get it back to 99.5 and 38%. Maybe I should just go in and sit on them myself!

THis is good information. I can't believe how hard it is to pin down an actual number. WHen I left this morning it was at 48%, I see things all the way from 30-60% first 18 days. THats nuts? I need a number lol

That happened with me too, after I put my eggs in I had alot of trouble getting the temp to stay under 102. I fiddled with it all evening and finally we have it stuck on 101.5 which I am HAPPY with.

so this is day 3 ... i am thinking that this is going to be a very long process for me. I cannot wait!

Yes, that is good info to have! The Suro has been easy-peasy and consistent, I've had to tweek the LG a 2-3 times a day. Right now it's 100.8/30%.
Don't know if the humidity will be enough?

I set 8 EE's on Sunday. I havent been having much luck these days with hatching. Last two hatches resulted in 1% rate. Yep 2 babies out of 24 eggs? Sad huh. But I got and egg turner and am hoping for sucess seeing that I won't have to open as much.Wish me luck
