Need help ASAP impacted crop *UPDATE*

He is peeping and preening like normal so maybe this is a good sign. He is trying to eat some of the chick feed is this ok or should I take it away? I hope he is going to be ok I am really freaking out. OMG he just went to the water bowl and drank on his own. Is this a good sign? I love my Will and I am worried sick.

Can you just watch him closely for a while? Maybe move the food away for an hour or two, make sure he keeps drinking some water, then give the food back and watch some more. Ducklings can be very resilient, and as you know, can get into the darndest troubles!

I think he should be okay - I would just check on him frequently for a while. And I hope you can find something relaxing to do for a bit!

PM me if you wish to decompress - I need to go treat some bumblefoot right now. sheesh.

It should be fine now. Relax:)

But 1 week old is way to young for whole food. Next time cook the peas and mash them, let them cool. I use about 1 tablespoon mixed with about 1/2 cup water to use for a duckling treat. Keep the rest in the frig for the next few days. Make sure he eats his duck food before he gets treats so he's not hungry. Ducks love peas and just go crazy for them. The little gluttons.

Ducks need water to swallow and clear out their airways. That's why they need the water deep enough to wet their entire bill. If you watch it when it eats, it will eat, get water, eat, get water.

If he's drinking, all is well.

He is drinking water every now and then. But he seems tired right now. I guess this is normal considering he did just throw up everything in his crop wouldn't you think?

Just water, if you don't have chamomile on hand. I would suggest to get some chamomile in tea bags and just store it in a mason jar. This stuff lasts for a long while. It is good for so many bad things, like upset stomach. I personally drink it a lot with a touch of honey. I like the flavor. BTW it is also good for your skin. It does kill off pimples for those that suffer from it. Just cook some and store in a small mason jar in the fridge. Use cotton balls and clean your face with it. You should cook a new batch each week. It's the anti inflammatory properties are excellent. Very good for teething toddlers. They do love the taste of it. You can also use it to wash out small cuts etc. I even give it to my dogs, if they throw up after eating a bulk load of grass. They do that sometimes and love the tea.

I think your duckling will be fine now. Offer him some mush feed tonight and he will be ok tomorrow. Better watch out when it comes to peas. I give whole peas to 1 week old one, but only a few at a time. It should not be their main diet, just a treat. Try to hand feed one at a time. The idea it that they chew first and don't scarf them down. They will scarf if you let them.

I don't know how to thank y'all. He seems to be doing better. I will have to get some tea. I usually am really good about the peas. Only once per day and I usually make it into a pea soup almost. But today my sister came over to the house and wanted to feed them and I told her to mush them up really well and no big whole peas. But I think she overdid it (no fault of her's I should have been watching) and they were STUFFED with peas. My other duckling seems fine but I need to keep an eye on both of them. I would say I probably got 10 or 15 peas out of his crop.

Will is doing good so far. He has been eating a little and drinking normally. Every time I walk by he peeps like normal so I am praying that nothing drastic will happen through the night. Thanks to everyone who helped me figure out how to empty his crop. I had all the peas together to take a picture but Dh threw it away. It was almost a whole hand full of peas. Note to everyone: watch when friends and family come over to play/feed your ducks!!! I will let yall know how he is tomorrow.
