need help dealing with coyote

Here is something I have wondered about. I know that to keep deer away from gardens and fruit trees many stores sell coyote urine that you are supposed to sprinkle around the area. Would human urine work to keep coyotes at bay? Sort of "marking your territory" with human urine the way that dogs do? Anyone ever heard of doing this?

can you search your area for a trapper? also, walk your property line & see about putting up snares in the areas where they may be squeezing under the fence (if there is one). we have had the best luck with leg traps/snares for getting coyotes, but be really, really sure your pets can't get there. we have a large ranch, and catching pets/domesticated animals isn't a concern for us!

Ha HA, I had this discussion with my husband. I told him, look, you are the super predator, get out there and mark your territory. He, after rolling his eyes, spent the afternoon looking at predator callers, and night vision goggles. He also liked the idea of an alarmed motion dectector. I think it's gotten personal.

We have too many pets in this area to set leg traps. My DH found a cage trap that is supposed to be big enough for a coyote. I think this would work best for us as my neighbors all have dogs and walk them off leash along a right of way gravel road. We are also going to put up 6' woven fence around a couple of acres close to the house so the girls can still free range. If we run a hot wire top and bottom, will that keep them from going under?

Yea , when we lived in NY, we were infested with deer. We tried everything, urine, pans, radios, cougar urine. Nothing worked because these animals have lived near humans. It's no big deal to them.

a cage a coyote will enter will need to be a minumum of 18-22" tall 48" long would be a good start the most sucess folks have had with caging them is to bait it and feed them for a month or 2 with the cage wired open once you catch 1 the rest will "shy" off the location you will need to move it if the animal has to either stoop down or crawl into it most will not even try you might accidently catch some pups or diseased/sick ones but most will just walk by cages more then a few folks here use snares and foot hold traps for fox and yotes

here is one of the few folks I know of that has had any luck caging coyotes most folks want to get them gone quicker then a cage can good luck

most preds could care less where you pee they will cover up yours to let you know they are the dominate one not you ,one of the biggest deer I have harvested was enraged that I would tear up his scrape and pee on it :) it is easy when they are not cautous

I had a coyote here last year that we literally tried to hunt to kill. No restrictions here for that. He attacked 1 of my cats in our yard. That cat made it but a month later he killed my other cat in our yard at around noon. We called federal trappers but they cost $$$$$ I called the DNR and asked them if I could blow this thing away myself and he said yes. My other half and myself sat out in the yard late at night and really early in the morning to wait for it, armed and loaded, never got lucky enough to get it ourselves, fortunately the coyote found his way to the middle of the highway and became one with the road. The fox out here will stand 2 feet away from you and eye ball your birds while you are standing here so they aren't shy either. I think your best bet would be bait and trap or just shoot it if you are able to get a clear shot.
