Need help designing an irregular-shaped covered run

I don't think a survey, map or measuring tape would make any difference here. The property line is a chain link fence, it's pretty clear where it is. This is an urban area with small yards and fences, so the lines are pretty clear. So a survey won't help with that, but the inspector said it's part of the process of getting a legal exception and having the coop approved where it currently is. It's possible to do that after the fact, but you need a survey for that, and that's the big expensive roadblock on that path. The coop is 5x7 so I know I don't need a permit.

He said he'll call me tomorrow and let me know what he's come up with. I'll emphasize the fact that lots of people have their coops along the property line (I have literally seen them), and that maybe if nobody complains then it's not a problem......
But if someone does it can be worse than what you are going through now. It would be less hassle to rebuild.

It's all up to the mystery neighbor who recently moved in and whom I don't know yet... Grrr... I wish it was one of the other neighbors - they're all very laid back and said they don't mind the coop at all. The coop is in a corner so next to 2 property lines actually. Mystery neighbor and one of the cool neighbors who doesn't mind. We'll see what the inspector says tomorrow and what my options are.

Someone with a forklift could move your coop. Just a thought.

Weeeellll....fences have been known to be put on 'not the real property line'.

If they are renters, it's really up to the owner.

Hopefully things will work out . Keeping my fingers crossed .

As for snow load, I don't really know what to plan for anymore. This used to be snow country, but snow is actually rare nowadays. Every few years we'll get a giant snowstorm with deep snow, but most years there's barely enough for a snowman.

Plan for heavy snow. Things are in flux with weather because of the changing jet stream. Though snow has changed there it very well could change back. And though you're not getting much snow, this winter's snow mass in the northern hemisphere is way above its 30-year average. So things could change again and you'd be covered. We never know what's going to happen when the jet stream becomes meridional (wavy) because of low solar activity, like we're seeing now; and it's forecast to get even lower.

True, but I don’t know if the owner even lives here. If the renter really decides to complain, they could raise the issue with the owner and have them make a fuss with the town....
If your coop is 5 x 7 feet, how tall is it? If not too tall you may be able to move it with a pallet jack. That's what the delivery person uses to move my pellet stove fuel when they deliver it. Those pallets are approximately 4 x 3 1/2 feet and around 5 feet tall and weigh over a ton. It doesn't cost very much to rent one and if you do the move before the ground thaws it should take less than 30 minutes. I do caution you to have someone assist you as this would not be a one person job.
