I have 3 chicks, they are 4 1/2 weeks old. I ran out of chick starter last night. I cant find a feed store that's open on Sundays.

So just for today could I give them layer pellets? I know they normally shouldn't have them so young but would one day hurt them? If so, what else can I feed them just for today? I will go to the feed store first thing tomorrow.

Lesson learned, even if you only have 3 chicks get the BIG bag of chick starter.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can crush some of the layer pellets somehow (coffee grinder or in a plastic bag with a mallet) and then add some hard boiled egg yolk to up the protein.

That should work fine. Just keep an eye on them to ensure the change of feed doesn't give them poopy butt. And remove any egg yolk that they don't eat after a couple of hours so it won't go bad.

But one day shouldn't hurt them.

Thank you Pathfinders, thats what I wanted to know:)

Thanks eegsrcool, I had totally forgotten they could eat cooked eggs.

I'll keep an eye on them. Thanks again guys
