I have bought the wormer from MM that has the DE in it with flax seed. And the page for the DE shows it out of stock at MM.

WormGuard Plus with flaxseed

Holistic Health Care examines the impact that disposition and environment have on your animals overall health. It differs from conventional care because it doesn't just treat symptoms, but rather seeks the underlying causes of an illness. The main wormer in WormGaurd is a more concentrated form of FDA aopproved Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth which consist of tiny phytoplankton's mainly composed of amorphous hydrated silicates, of less that 1%. This is packaged especially for poultry (with whole flax-does not need refrigeration

If you are in Oregon, Wilco (Willamette Valley Farmer's Coop) carries 40lbs bags of DE. I bought a bag this weekend, I had to wait about 20 minutes as they searched the warehouse for it, they ended up finding it under the peanuts of all places (gimmi a bag extra for the wait, my chickens love them!). I do not recall the price I was just so happy to get the bag (and not pay shipping!). I have already dusted my garden edges, and given a couple of pounds to my old man for using in his greenhouse (aphids and hydroponic hot pepper's are not friends!). I guess I am just on the DE honeymoon phase!

Edited to add:

I forgot, the bag has this neat spout to make it easier to pour out into feed buckets (to mix the 3% in)

Diatomatious Earth is used in swimming pool filters. Try a pool supply house.

The DE for swimming pools is not food grade and is poisonious.

COMMON SENSE PEST CONTROL QUARTERLY, published by BIRC, Volume III, Number 1, Winter 1987:

“Both swimming pool grade and natural diatomaceous earth come from the same fossil sources but they are processed differently. The natural grades are mined, dried, ground, sled and bagged. The pool grade is chemically treated and partially melted and consequently contains crystalline silica which can be a respiratory hazard. Thus, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ONLY NATURAL DIATOMACEOUS EARTH BE USED FOR INSECT CONTROL. This noncrystalline silica is not a hazard as the human body apparently can dissolve it. “

“Silicosis refers to lung contamination and irritation by crystalline of free silica (Si02). Crystalline describes the orientation of the Si02 molecules which occur in a fixed pattern in contrast to the non periodic, random molecular arrangement defined as amorphous. Exposure to free silica is an occupational hazard to workers. “

I found the manufacturer online Its PermaGuard Diatomaceous Earth Products. They have two website on yahoo one is in Arkansas the other in New Mexico. Have you asked your local feedstore if they can order it for you? They may not be charged extra shipping if some of their relgular suppliers carry it.

I found mine at a local feedstore. It was $25 for a 50 lb bag. Yes, 50 pounds... and I have 4 hens! I think I have a lifetime supply.

I searched and searched not only for a good price, but being able to use paypal for ease of use.

I found EarthWorks.

Here is a link to their site. I am so glad that I have ordered it. The flies are not good. My husband will have a fit if he sees that many. Plus, it sounds like a good overall product to have around.
