Electrolytes are minerals that must maintain a delicate balance to maintain life. Every living creature has electrolytes, most of which comes from the food and water that we consume. By giving the additional you are creating an embalance putting stress on the heart and the kidneys. Vitamins ADE&K can become toxic as they build up in the fat of the body.

By adding electrolytes when they are not needed it throws the heart's electrical activity in to a tail spin, the kidneys work harder trying to expell the excess.

If you'd like to know more about harm can be done, call your doctor or your vet and asking them what happens when you supplement electrolytes when they aren't needed on a baby.

I'm so sorry it's not getting better. Another long shot but may offer some answers, there's an avian vet in Kensington (I think) Dr. Giddings. Maybe his office will have some ideas. I've only dealt with them with indoor pet birds but they may have a clue for you. Good luck!

Sorry i'm late to this thread but I thought Purina start and grow was medicated. That's why I am not using it because my chicks were vaccinated.

When I bought mine I was asked if I wanted it medicated or not. I think it comes both ways. I bought nonmedicated.

We ordered from McMurray and have had our chicks for two weeks now. Two of them are exhibiting symptoms similar to the ones you mentioned. One is especially bad - can't stand, legs seem too weak to hold her up, she falls forward when she tries to stand. She also has diarrhea and her eyes seem watery. We are hand feeding and watering her. What is this!!?? If you find anything out, good or bad, please post an update. I'll do the same. It certainly sounds like a problem that has originated at McMurray though.

I am seeing similar problems with MM chicks on another forum.
weak legs..continuing weakness, etc..
these chicks did get vaccines for Mereks and cocci..
and Quik Chick vits from MM.
