Need help. Gruesome pictures.

A friend texted me these pictures. Beware picutres are gruesome. They are not very nice looking pictures. Something got into her coop last night and got one of her hens. What could it have been? And is there anything she can do?

What animal could hurt a chicken like that and make a tennis ball size holes and dig in compact soil?

Maybe a raccoon or a weasel or a stray cat

I'd second a raccoon. You can post in the predators thread, if you'd like more advice. So sorry.

I don't very often advise putting a chicken down, but this would have been one of those times.

It's hard to say what did this. My bet would be on raccoon. The best thing to do would be to tell your friend to fix the opening where the predator got in. Then put a trail cam on it. The predator will most likely be back.
