My two turkey's were attacked last night. We came home to lock them up (around 8:30) and saw white feathers all over the field. No sign of him. The other one was ripped open under his wing and under his belly. I cleaned it and put antibacterial spray on it, (the best I could with out giving him a heart attack). He is eating okay but his body is ravaged. What else do I need to do for him? I don't know if I should just put him out of his misery or just keep babying him and hope he gets better. I don't know what attacked him either. I would think if it was a coyote it would have killed both of them. I was thinking a hawk but that is a pretty big thing for a hawk to take down. What would spread feathers through out a pasture and then eat all of the turkey but the carcass and feathers?

If he survives the first 24 hours generally turkeys are really good at healing up from some pretty nasty wounds. They also keep their wounds cleaned so I personally don't do anything with them so the turkey can tend to it.

As far as what attacked them, it would have to be a larger predator like coyote or bigger, wolves, and potentially bigger cats. Stray dogs are another potential suspect. Hawks can't carry off an adult turkey. I would guess the other got carried off to be eaten elsewhere.
