Need Help Skinny Peacock???

About that weighing him bit -- it may be easier if you wrap him in a towel if you are trying to hold him.  Make sure you subtract the weight of the towel.
I don't have anything to weight him on sadly, my chickens are heavier than him

If your chickens weigh more, then he is quite thin. if you have $20-$30, go to Walmart and buy a kitchen scale. Place the scale on your counter in the bathroom, take him in the bathroom, turn on scale, turn off lights, place him on scale. He should stand quietly in the dark. :D

Do you have a household bathroom scale? Step on the scale holding the towel and write down the weight. Then step on the scale holding the pea wrapped in the towel. Subtract... that gives you his weight in pounds. (On some scales, you can set it to weigh in kilograms -- kg -- instead of pounds.)

Most medicine doses are calculated in amount per kilogram, however @casportpony has also given you the Safeguard dosage in the amount per pound. Be careful to keep those straight. One kilogram equals approximately 2.2 pounds.

@casportpony 's way to weigh is better

-- that way is more accurate. Bathroom scale will work if you don't have anything else...

Bathroom scale is what I use if they weigh more than my kitchen scale can read, which is 5kg I think, and I weigh them on the bathroom scale just as you suggested.

Most people don't think in metric, so that's why I give the per pound dose. For those that speak metric, the Safeguard dose is 50 mg per kilogram, which is 0.5 ml per 1000 grams.

I'll see if I go get one you guys, and he's a little bit heavier but that's just cause he's tall the chickens have more meat on their breast than he does.

Congratulations on your new baby. It sounds like you both are going to do fine. I just wanted to mention that your run needs to have a "top" to it, otherwise it won't contain your pea. You want to be feeding him at least 22% protein gamebird food. When you have time, read through the other threads here, you'll get lots of information. For at least the first few weeks you might want to add apple cider vinegar to his water when you aren't medicating him, just a couple of tablespoons per gallon, it will help keep him from getting cocci and aid his digestion. Enjoy
