I'm sorry to hear of your losses. I have been there myself, not so much with the birds but other animals and livestock. Take comfort though in the ability to know the cause, you clearly care about them or wouldn't have gone to the trouble to get a report, so try and not blame yourself.

I think it's normal when we lose our beloved animals, we point blame in our direction and feel responsible, mostly though unless serious neglect that simply is not the case.
