Need help with a bad wound

I have 6 week old chicks that have taken to pecking on one poor little chick. I have separated them....they have pecked the back of her head so bad that a large area is down to the muscle underneath. The wound doesn't look bad ("meaty" or icky), and isn't bleeding. The chick isn't acting like anything is wrong...I'm just wondering what, if anything, I should do for her. When she moves her head you can see that the top part moves one way and the underneath part moves the other.....

Is the pecking down to skin level or is the skin gone? I'd use Blu-Kote, pine tar, something like that so that she tastes bad to the others and they stop picking on her. Bag balm is something else I've tried. I had this happen to my one leghorn and she never molted this fall with the others and her head is still bare. She got plucked bad enough that she had a pretty big sore on her head, and I tried wrapping it with a bandage (that was funny and lasted about 60 sec) but a few days of alone-time and then Blu-kote worked the best for me.

Antibacterial ointment will help the skin grow back. The chick needs to remain separated until healed. Bad tasting stuff only lasts long, and then they are tearing the skin off again.

If you use antibacterial cream(which isn't a bad idea), please make sure it doesn't have any pain reliever in it(that will kill your chick).

I had a bird this summer that suffered the same fate. As Enola suggested I applied an anti-biotic ointment and she has healed beautifully.

need advice/ some of my chickens went native, and when it got cold and i put them in the coop for the winter a fewmanaged to get by on their own in the bushes. when the cold and snow came they hid. when i found them their feet were frost bit. now a few have lost parts of their toes. i will see how they recover and either cull them or let them manage.

Thanks all for the advice!! I was kind of figuring on the antibiotic ointment. She is separated right now and doesn't seem phased one bit by the back of her head. She's such a sweetie and a real trooper!! I'm glad to hear that all is well with others that have dealt with the same thing.
