I need some help. I had something go wrong with this hatch. Out of 21 eggs at day 18, I had 6 live hatches. The last one has a lump on it's belly. I don't know if it is yolk not absorbed or if it is it's intestines or what ?

Right now it's still in the incubator. THe other 5 babies are doing great and are in the brooder. But I wonder if I should put the little one in the brooder too or if the others will peck at the lump. Baby is chirping it's lonely little heart out in the bator.

Can anyone tell me what it is? And what should I do with the Baby?

Hard to say but it looks like it came out of its shell before it was ready.

All you can do is wait and watch, I have my doubts about it making it.

So would you put it in the brooder, or leave it in the incubator to see if it makes it?

If it were me-I would leave in bator-Id be afriad the chicks in brooder would pick at it -thats just my opinion though

I have seen that before- the egg yolk wasn't absorbed all the way. That can happen due to early hatch. If they experience a temperature change so development slows this may happen. I'd put him in with the others if he's stressed by himself. If the others pick on him seperate him. I'd give him a good chance at making it

OK. I think I am going to put him in the brooder in the morning. By then, he'll be needing to drink and eat and I'll be able to keep an eye on them. It's very sweet and snuggly when I am holding it. I hope it does absorb in and it turns out ok.

No, not really. There was still a lump. I had to put it inthe brooder though, it was so sad alone. It was peeping it's little heart out.

It has quieted down now. The other chicks are not picking at it, but they are completely ignoring it. When it tries to go near them, then all walk away and huddle away from it. So now it is just in the corner all by itself.

I am worried that it isn't going to make it. It just seems so weak compared to the others.

I have never had one make it like that or continue to absorb the yolk sack after it has hatched. Normally what happens is the part that isn't absorbed eventually breaks or gives way and the rest comes out and the chick dies. If it is just a small bump, it sometimes dries up and the chick makes it but not usually.
