I have 12 pullets ranging in age from about 5 months to 9 weeks. I have three golden comets that should be about 16 weeks old. One of them has matted feathers around her vent. I first suspected mites but after inspecting her closely I didnt see anything crawling around on her skin. I gave her a bath towel dried and blow dried her feathers and she looked good as new. I then inspected the rest of the girls at night and none have any issues. I went back to check on her again a few minutes ago and her feathers are all matted down again. I have her inside in a crate now. It seems like a clear discharge is coming from her vent. Dirt is sticking to that and makes it look pretty bad. Any idea what it may be? The other two Golden Comets combs and faces have turned bright red.
