NEED HELP WITH SHIPPED FBCM EGGS! UPDATE~!!!!!

Yes I have found a forum on here that is for local people in my area. Seems most of the people are other side of the state. I have found one about an hour from me but the seller doesnt sell to "drive up" customers. Auction only. I have posted on that forum a couple times "looking for Maran eggs around my area". Not much luck so far on that. I have bid on some of their eggs but haven't won any yet. Hoping this last batch of eggs i bought produces some chicks then i'll hatch some of my own eggs some day.

I have a hard time finding eggs near me too. I am way out i n the country and seems like it is an hour drive to get anywhere. But we have swap meets around here at our local TSC....do you all do that there? We have a whole group of chicken loving people who put it on and we have soooo much fun!!! If you can get involved with that, you could meet people there for eggs.....

it is hard to get started. I started my LF Brahma flock last year....no one near me has Brahmas! had to order from a hatchery who screwed up my order and sent me bantams. Now I have some and hey are giving me eggs :) but now that I want to do Cuckoo Marans...no one has them!!! Why do I have to pick the two breeds that no one has lol

I also bought FBCM eggs- they were shipped from TX to NJ- I'm having good luck so far in all but the really dark ones- they were all clear and didn't develop at all. I asked about it and was told sometimes the darkest of dark ones need to be lightly sanded to thin down the 'paint' layer on the outside so O2 can pass back and forth+ moisture evaporate out also......I'll try that next time. Like I said- the lighter ones are still hanging in there and I'm on day 19- lockdown with them, hoping I get some fuzzy butts in the next few days.

really? Sand down an egg? I had never heard that...hmmmmmm I hope none of mine are too dark. I hatched out 5 last week and they are doing fine...but this set does look darker...now I am worried!!!!!!!!!

With every batch of shipped Marans eggs that I have done - 30% humidity until day 19 and then bump it to 60%. The absolute best place I have had for incubating and hatching is my bedroom closet. Last 2 batches of shipped Marans have had 90% or better hatch rates.

I had never heard of that either- so I'll see next time. My 2nd bator is on day 14 with 4 of my Sebbie's eggs (all 4 doing great) and 15 pretty dark FBCM eggs ( 13 out of 15 looking great so far.) So I"m not sure on the sanding thing...just will try lightly sanding with the darkest eggs if I get them ever again.

Funny you should mention it.....I have 15 set now and i've put them in my closet floor not to my wife's liking of course. lol

Just candled on day 14 of my second attempt to hatch some FBCM eggs. Looks like 11 of 15 are doing great! I'm hoping for at least 50% but it looks even better so far.

keeping my fingers crossed!!

Update! My eggs have hatched and I ended up with 10. I was so nervous this attempt would turn out like my last one. I got 0 out of 12. Shipped eggs make me nervous!! Lol!
