I’m moving into a new house. Adding 15 acres to what I currently have.:wee Needed more room for more goats! Anyway I am putting up of course a new fenced in area for my goats. I’m running into a few trees and bushes I’m not 100% sure exactly what they are. At my current house there are lots of trees but they’re all Pine Oak or sweetgum so beyond that I want to make sure what I’m looking at. I think I know what the first one and last ones are but just want to be sure want to make sure everything inside their area is safe for them. And there is also a large magnolia tree and I’ve been reading that safe for them to eat. Anyone know if that’s true either. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about chickens and plants. If you provide adequate nutritionally complete poultry feed all waking hours and the greenery is diverse, they won't eat what they shouldn't.
On the other hand, if they aren't fed adequately and the property only has a couple species of plants, that is what they will be forced to eat.

Oh the chickens I don’t worry about too much. Because like he said they tend to just eat the grass in their feed. I guess I should’ve specified a little better but I’m more worried about my goats that usually stay away from toxic stuff but not always. I had to deal with azalea poisoning when they were younger. And I never wanna have to go through that again

And I just got a call from the old owner because I did ask him what kind of fruit trees were in the backyard and his orchard. Most of them are going down because they are pretty much dead there’s a few I may be able to save with pruning. I think apple pear and crabapple are safe. I’ll have to check on that too

I’ll have to see where that is. Good idea. If the last one on the first post is elderberry I’d be thrilled and keeping the goats away. I’ve had to take down lots of poke berry , but that looks different. Too bad I couldn’t see it earlier in the year and I’d know better. The owner didn’t mention anything about black cherries but maybe the grow wild too. It is interesting making here... there’s so many different plants... and Ive Been studying beneficial wild plants so it’s rather intriguing. Can’t wait to explore the rest of the property. Only about 4 acres clear out of 17.5 so lots to explore

#2 is a mimosa. Very pretty in the spring, strictly ornamental.
