Need help with their water

Continue to elevate their waterer (and their food) as they grow. The basin of the waterer should be level with your smallest chicks back. They should have to reach up just a bit to get a drink.
Chickens don't have the same swallowing mechanism we humans do. You'll notice they tilt their heads back to swallow. Elevating the waterer is actually good for them, as it aids them in swallowing.

I agree! This advise has helped me with the same issue. It has worked very well for every batch of chicks thus far.

I started setting mine on boards because its a pain to clean the shavings out of them things. Not to mention they get no water.

I got one of those wire stacking racks they sell at Wal-Mart for organizing your kitchen shelves. It puts the waterer up about 4" above the very bottom of the brooder, after shavings it's about 2" above the shavings. That worked the best for me.

Well I decided to put them in a cage and they are now elevated off the wood shavings (on a cage bottom above the shavings) with a few paper towels to lay on of course and it's done wonders for the water and now I don't have to worry about them dying from lack of water. They are all around 9-11 days old (one 9 day, one 10 day, and two 11 days) They are starting to get all the feathers on their wings.

Here are some pictures taken today!

Also can anyone tell from this picture if this chick is male or female with the wing feathers? If anyone can I will post all of their pictures and we'll see if I have any hens! (I can only keep hens sooo

Not all chicks can be wing or feather sexed. It only works for breeds specifically bred to do so. With most breeds you have to wait until four to six weeks for the secondary sex characteristics to start showing up to hazard a guess.
I have a 2 1/2 week old turken chick in the brooder that is most definitely a cockerel, but he's an exception.
